    Too funny!
Ya know I live in an old German Beer town. Several weeks back was Bock Fest....5000 beer drinkers at brewery and I'm pretty sure there were at least 5000 of these Sunday Morning!

I worked for a sugar company. The township sewer authority was so paranoid about sugar water coming to the sewer plant that they made us put a sampling well in the sewer line. They would come check any time they wanted to check for sugar water. Out in the plant the guys would hose down the floor and push the water out the door. It killed 6 pine trees and all of the grass for almost thirty feet.

Having worked for a waste water plant for a number of years and still holding an active license I can tell you there are a number of things that get dumped down drains which will throw the chemistry (balance of bugs to food mass) way out of whack and can actually kill the plants ability to process waste water. Not that I think Rocky should worry about that with the stuff he put down the drain! Hell that stuff will probably eat the pipes before it even gets out of his hood! :D

  10. Nah...the mixture was so weak I quit using it years ago. The only power it had was the power to stink! All smell in the house is gone now and any residual smell outside will be blamed on the neighbor's damned dogs. I think any further molasses baths will be confined to a 5 gallon bucket.
Anybody local want a blue plastic 55 gallon barrel?

Rocky, great thread and I can relate completely. I had a big cattle trough that was approximately 150gallons. Had it filled with molasses/water. Did it's job removing rust but OMG was the odor disgusting. You'd get that shit on your hands and clothes and it wouldn't go away. My wife wouldn't even meet me for lunch if she knew I was messing with it. I can still smell that stench.
Needless to say, when i finally decided to empty the tank I said, Ef it. Put forks from forklift under the edge and tipped it over. No neighbors around the shop but you could smell the shit down wind 100yards!

No need to flush it down the toilet, I just dumped the used molasses and water solution on the grass. Have done this for years and there is no sign that it does any harm.

what a mess, you made me laugh really good this morning.
I have a barrel of mole asses out back behind the engine room. Reason why I picked molasses is it is environmentally friendly and will just dump it on the ground and hose it down to dilute it.
Is actually good fertilizer for the grass, and weeds in my case.

What bothers me, is not far from the molasses barrel is a tire pile, and there is a family of skunks living in there somewhere.
I try to keep a tight lid on the molasses as to not attract the skunks to it ..... This might end up being another how "NOT" to get rid of your molasses story down the road.

Very funny, Rocky! Too bad you don't still work at the Zoo -- I can only imagine some of the stinky stuff that gets cleaned up around there! Your remaining 5 gallons could easily 'go away' around that place.

Too funny Rocky! I'll have to remember not to let mine get that old.
Last time mine needed changing we had big winds and lots of rain. It blew the lid off and diluted the old molasses to a point where I could just tip it over and let it go at that. The property behind my shop is a horse pasture, so the smell is no problem.
Actually, I like the smell of the molasses when it's fresh, it smells like molasses cookies back there instead of horse patties.
