My 1953 303 is currently at the machineshop awaiting the rebuild. Right now I'm looking for a cam for it. Camcraft cams can grind me a camshaft with a 204 duration @.050 with a .493 lift or a 208 duration @.050 with the same lift. Wich cam should I use? My Rocket will have a 3x2 set up and will be backed by a Muncie gearbox.
Assuming for street........rember the higher the duration, 1. power band widens but also moves up, 2. higher fuel comsumption, 3. rougher idle, 4. higher emission, 5. less torque @ low RPM. These two cams are very simular , you will vever see the differenc on the street, so my advice................well you can guess !
Know that I said that............I run a Hyd.cam w/222duration @ .050 with a .465 lift with 110 deg. lobe centers and it does fine in my 324 bored to 4 inch with two tows and B&M Hydro
Where did you buy the cam? I find it very hard to find a performance cam for a early Rocket Olds motor.
I have a 55' 324 and when i was looking for a cam the only place that could help me was camcraft and that was to regrind a cam. I was fortunate and located a guy in town who had a few laying around. I ended up goin with a hyd. 480/510, 272 duration and a 106 lobe seperation. He has another hyd that has .430 lift, intake and exhaust with 266 dur on both with 110 degrees lobe sep along with 2 rollers if you are interested scott
