Can I get some pictures of your roadster side mirrors? I need to install some and I want to see which way I should go. Thanks.
https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/product.htm?pid=977140&cat=41734 I use this mirror. Its made by Vintique and is a nice piece. My car has original paint, so I scuffed it a bit with a Scotch Brite pad to knocked down the shine.
I think I had bike mirrors on my T that weren't much different than these on Ebay. I bought them out of the box of take off mirrors at a bike shop in Waco in the 70's just as I did with the park/turn lights out of a box of take off park/turn lights on the same shelf.
These swan necks were cut down and plated. I like them but nearly useless. I installed convex peep mirrors from Hagan on my 41 PU and they are amazing. I plan to order a pair of heads from them to replace the ones I have.
I modified a set of peep mirror bases and bolted these on to my roadster. As Billy noted they are pretty much useless at speed.
Ebay .. its the same as the one in mr48chev post above. You can get 3" or 4" mirrors. The one in my pic is 3" but I have now got 4" to swap out as ther are a bit small
Since you still have door hinges, you could maybe look at ~'41 ford pu mirrors. They have a long tapered neck(which could be bent to a different shape, cut down for length), & are hinge-pin mounted. Usually come painted, iirc. Another candidate is the ACVW bug mirrors, which iirc, is like the ford, only smaller & has a shorter stem, usually nicely chromed. Check the hinge-height, & pin dia, you'll need a longer pin in any case, as these mount over both the top & bottom of the hinge. Then it's a matter of getting the ball-pivot tight enough to stay that way. Marcus... Edit: What I meant to write was Ford '42-.'47 ford PU hinge-mounted mirrors, which iirc, use 4"dia, maybe 5" dia, mirrors. '41 ford mirror hinge-mounted-arms might be(probably are) the same as '42->'47. Don't recall any vibration-issues w/the ones I had yrs ago.
I used the mirrors off my stepsons Harley. I like the rectangle shape and the fact they swoop down. Great visibility too!
There is a company called Hagan Street Rods 888-464-2426 that has a line of mirrors called "Fatties" They have several different mirrors and arms available. I have them on both my cars and although a little "pricey" they offer what they call "super view mirrors". I can drive the Long Island Expressway or PA Turnpike and see all three lanes of traffic at once, real safe.
https://brookvilleroadster.com/store/mirrors/32-chopped-post-mirror/ 32 ford Chopped post mirror. I welded bungs into the windshield posts before I sent them to the chrome shop.
On one of my deuce roadsters 22 years ago I used Moal mirrors. The screwed into the posts, were very adjustable plus I could see out of them. Drawback is a little pricey. I just looked and for a pair of chrome arms and a pair of chrome mirror heads it was $218 plus the ride. It was a high end deuce roadster for the time.
I used the 30-31 original style mirrors on mine, screwed into the stanchions. I did add a convex mirror to the right side one. No pictures, as car has moved on.
I have a pair of these 3" clamp on mirrors from Speedway on my car. Nothing fancy, they do the job well. Just make sure you use loctite, they can vibrate loose over time. Universal L/R Side Clamp-On Door Top Peep Mirror, 3 Inch, Pair (speedwaymotors.com)
Ho Chi Mama! Dana you don't need no stinkin mirrors, looking straight ahead seems to be the best view.
