I built the car myself and it was inspired by lakes roadsters and lakes modifieds. Taking ideas from various photos and cars I have seen in magazines and at Bonneville. The flat Model T and Model A grilles are about as aerodynamic as a sheet of plywood, and the 32 shell isn't much more aero either.... Looking for something more "aero" in appearance is how the 34 shell ended up on the car. The cars been on the road for 7 years and you are the first one that has given an unsolicted negative comment about it. But then again I didn't build it as a "me too" car. To each their own.
Well , blame it on the internet, I would likely never tell you in person I didn't like the grille. Unless were were buddies of course. Then it would get brought up all the time as good natured ribbing In general I like your RPU. But lets face it, the grille only flows a little air, it still has the brick of a rad behind it. When we are dealing with these early cars aerodynamics is an exercise in futility. No need for a "me too" car, but I do think the elements of a car should work with and complement each other. IMO the 34 grille detracts from the looks of your car. The 34 grille is from different styling lines than the T. But that's OK as you said it's your car and you built it for you. Enjoy.
Yep.. I got buddies like that, they are all pretty much like that actually. It's all good. The standard old flat Model T grille shell just doesn't work for me on the "re-styled" 26-27 body style. The '32 and the '33-'34 area as good as it gets in my narrow minded view. In any event, thanks for the reply.
I still like this one I put together with my friend Lynn Bird. My dad takes care of it now and added the genuine magnesium Halibrands I hooked up for $250- from a well-known hot rodder.
Jim, really have always liked that truck, some what like the one I built for the NSRA giveaway in 04.
I've figured out the formula for great threads on the hamb. Chris asks for pictures of a particular type of car, people post some really great cars, then Chris tells us that he's either buying or already has bought that car. Then he proceeds to build the perfect example of said car. This is a great thread. Just like the model A highboy roadsters one was.
Great thread. Lord I love RPUs I think they are my favorite kind of hot rod. Better that sex...almost.
Here are couple of Roadster pickups that were at the 2010 UK Pickup and Van Nationals at Twinwood earlier this year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/austin7nut/sets/72157624607068725/
