We left Antigo Tuesday morning and headed South towards Chicago, and surprise, surprise we made it around 294 with no trouble at all, stopped for the night it Swanton Oh and the next morning stopped to see Frank Kosinski (Enjenjo) and saw this cool Crosley Wrecker.

Off we went to Youngstown Ohio to see Jerry Dixie who showed us his old Van Shop where he now rents some space to store and sell his pedal cars and his collection of Soap Box Derby stuff. This is a a helmet from every year of the derby plus all kinds of other memorbilia.

A neat old soda fountain and a pedal car of Fred Warrens AMBR wining car

A few of his pedal cars.

We then went to Pittsburgh to see the Flop Man.

That chevy is looking better every time I see it, the skirts are looking good, the interior that he did him self is looking super as is the engine with the sharp equipped 216.

We met Ken and Vicki in Martinsburg WV and planned a lesiurely drive to Hanover. We stopped for lunch at a little park along the Potomac river alongside the old tow path.

It was a neat little place, the old canal is over grown and the trees are huge, a long time since it was used.

Nope not this time Klaus, last time I did that it took me 7 hours to clean it up. We are headed to Myrtle Beach for a little vacation and I'd like to keep it clean this year.

maybe Megan should put some socks and shoes on instead of sandels if it is cold out.

  15. I hear you Bob! It took us quite some time to clean up last we were there in 05 and don't you know it, when we pulled her out of the container in Sweden, there was York dirt falling out!! I guess it could say something about my washing skills :)
Have a nice trip to SC

The Showdown was grrrrrrrrrrr8. More cars than they could handle and the swap was better than usual, I even picked up a few items.

Anyway, back to Friday, Ken took me to a few of his friends shops. First was Kerm's place.
First thing to geet my eyes is this Drag Car, A fiberglass 57 olds Faux Convertible. This thing runs in the low 9's and used to do high 8's with a little bigger motor.

    He made this intake himself

Kerm is also a Carburator genius and lots of good old stuff laying.

He made thes neat heat exhaust vents in the glass hood on the 32.

Great seeing you again too Murph, I'll send you a swatch of that material.

Here is some more of Kirk's magic.

He built this steering drop from aluminum and it even has a chain tensioner built into it, i don't believe that I have seen one of the commercially built units that have this feature. this is for the 32.

A intake being built for a 215 Aluminum block

An Olds moter he built for a customer with a Mag.

Then off to Vintage Specialties. Where we saw this cool Chevy.

The peak in this hood was built from a spare front fender section from the headlight back, a 2 inch section with the peak in the middle was cut from the side of the fender and then 1 inch was trimmed off each side of the middle of the hood and then the fender piece was welded in. Lots of work but the end result is amazing.

The dash on this 38 Olds really turns my Crank. I really like the radio controls on the stalks.

That's all for tonight, heading South tomorrow.

On the way from West Virginia to Hanover for the Showdown we took the back roads (surprise, surprise). Hwy 77 runs through Catocin Mountian Park. About halfway through the park there is a sign that tout's a waterfall and lake. We of course have to invistigate this natural wonder.

About 3 miles up the hill around a blind curve we come upon a real live Police and Forest Service Roadblock. Yeah, a real one with big Black Suburbans and Tahoe's and men with guns.

One of the guy's comes over to the car and tells us we have to turn around as the whole mountian is shut down. I niavely ask why and he says, G8, I brilliantly ask, what's that a new Pontiac? He did not see the humor in that and repeated his request.

At that point my brian kicks in as to where we must have inadvertanly stumbled into and I say to him, "So this is where Camp David Is". He then got real uptight and says, " I can't tell you that but you can google it"

That is when I figured that discretion is the better part of valor and we got the hell out of there.

Just think, we almost busted into one of the worlds largest conclaves of impotent folks. OOPS, I mean important folks.

When we got back to highway 77 and headed east we saw more cops and black Suburbans than I had ever seen before. We stopped for a beer and the locals thought it was humorus that we stumbled upon something that they all know is there and of no real interest to them.

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

No there are no pictures, if you think I was stupid enough to try and reach for my camera you are sadly mistaken.

We are in California tonite, California Maryland that is.

    More tomorrow.

Not too many pictures today, I'll post them tomorrow.

Ken and I will always have this memory to share with Maggie and you,,,my most vivid memory of that momment was how puffy the secret service guys chests were getting by the second.

And, Ken's 27 point turn that should have been a 2 point turn. ;)

We only took a few pics at the showdown as there were a lot of folks doing that. Here is the only car that we shot. It is a Dodge roadster with Overland hood sides very original and we like it a lot.

We stopped in Brookville MD. We have an app on our I Phones called Roadside America, that is how I find things like the worlds largest ball of twine. There was supposed to be a wood carving of the angel Gaberial. It wasn't there, The neighbor said that it disappeared about 2 weeks ago. Just what the hell does this have to do with hot rods. Well hot rods are cars and I wanted to take a picture of the chebby in front of the statue for that other thread.

Firetrucks are cars and hot rods are cars, so in the spirit of fire trucks here is the only CHROME FIRE HYDRANT that I have ever seen.

After a full day on the road and only covering 200 miles we bedded down for the night at a Super 8 in California, California MD that is. We headed then to the Solomon Islands. Wow what a bunch of world travelers you say. It amazes us how the names of towns in this country are similar to the rest of the world.

Roadside America says you can't miss the Easter Island Tiki's at the Tiki lounge. So of course we had to go, BTW the Marguaritas at the Tiki Bar are Delicious.

My Mother, lives at Homewood, and was complaining about the jets which interrupted her watching the Preakness - she didn't know what was going on.

Good seeing you and Maggie again, Bob. 'Got a good laugh at the G8 story. I hope your ride home was uneventful and you didn't crash any other global super-power meetings.
