Event Coverage ROAD TRIP: Moab Utah

Myself, Milkweed, his brother, and a couple friends are heading to Moab for the April Action car show. I figured this would be a good time to try out my HAMB app on the iPhone. I'll post pics as we go. Should be good times. We have some sketchy weather ahead, and all cars are far less than water proof, so this should get interesting. Leaving this morning at 10am (which probably means around 3pm) and returning Sunday afternoon. I'm taking my '54, Marcus is in his black '53, Milkweed in his Chevy modified pickup, Mark in his newly built (finished this morning!) "Whatzit", and Rustin in his little modified roadster. Good times!

Off we go!

Post up some pix of the event...I've been going to Moab for the past 17 years and this year I'll miss it...mainly because of all the snow over the mountains on I-70 and we're expecting more on this side of the mountains this weekend...

I-15 south to Spanish Fork, up through Price to Green river, then down to Moab.

11:30am and I'm still patiently waiting... ha ha

 

1 pm and still patiently waiting... This could turn out to be the shortest road trip thread on the HAMB. Several mechanicals before we even meet up... HAMB app works good though, so YAY!

Rain is coming... Wind is picking up... Glad I'm not the guy in the roadster!

When the weather cooperates, Moab is way cool. Unfortunately, it can get really ugly. Sure hope you don't get the bad stuff this year. My last trip to Moab, we had 50-60 MPH sidewind gusts which were turning over trailers. I saw an SUV with a fiberglass roof carrier and a couple of mountain bikes have the whole shebang ripped right off. Coming back north over Soldier Pass we hit a blizzard. Not roadster heaven that year.

Its a little after 2 and at least I'm waiting on the side I the freeway now... Lol. The guys had to build new shock mounts and radiator mounts for the roadster, and the black 53s carb shit the bed. Got those fixed and they headed out only to have the motor in the whatzit blow up. Loading it on a trailer and we should be on the road soon.

In the meantime, I'm patiently waiting. Ha ha ha ha...

So, what's that like-200 miles from SLC to Moab...??? Looks a bit cloudy there...hope Moab is covered in sunshine for you...

That is the route we go back and forth to the salt flats every year. All of our pit stuff is stored at Sumner's house at Blanding, Utah, which is an hour or so south of Moab. I never tire of that drive. We usually make a pit stop at Bo Huff's.

Back in 2003? we drove from SLC to Moab then on to California, the landscape out there is great. Please take some photos to show the others what it all looks like. Have fun! Bob

I have always lusted after the early Chev hard tops. Yours, red with white inside, is nothing short of fabulous! Keep up the great updates.

That gas station looks really familiar. It really looks like the one at Price, Ut If so, I have stopped there several times. Fact is, I spent part of a night trying to sleep there out back in the tow vehicle on a trip home from Bonneville.

These pictures are making me want to go on a road trip.
