Welp. The freaking thing fired on the second crank. Surprised me actually. I didn't even have the camera rolling, so here's the second fire up with the timing roughed in by ear...

Thank you sir. This motor is round one. Just a place holder to get it on the road. Next one is gonna be a 11:1 327...

The sound worked on my end, and it sounded damn good! I bet you are already trying to figure out how to take it for a trip around the block. Great job!

I heard it this time! Sounds great!

Could you maybe PM how you set up the temp starting wire? I'm about to that point on mine.

  10. Very nice! Looks and sounds great. What headers are those? They may be a solution for something I'm working on.

  11. Wow, that sounds really healthy.

So... figured some stuff out. The number 8 cylinder was running much cooler than the rest. Re routed the pcv plumbing to the carb and now they're all even. Too much oil vapor in one cylinder. Got a nice prize in the mail. @56sedandelivery hooked me up with this killer Hurst bench seat shifter. Has the kind of character you just can't get out of a brand new one. Dig the ivory shift knob...

Could you post pics of the new way you routed pcv plumbing? No rush, just curious.

So I haven't worked on the car in awhile cuz work has been intense, but I started digging through my parts stash and realized I had a water pump and a matching set of 2 groove pulleys! Gonna paint the pump and take the pulleys in for powder coat on monday.

It's been awhile, but the pulleys are done and I have parts for the clutch set up!

Nothing exciting. Just getting the bell housing indicated for flatness and concentricity. Not sure if that's even a word...

I've always used a Craftsman 3/8 drive extension turn around so the "female" end actually goes into the bearing, and a brass hammer. Fill the void with grease or Vaseline, and tap/pound away (that's a pun!). I posted to LogDog's thread about your headers; he was asking about "Sanderson's", and told him what you were doing. There has to be something better. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Took a skim cut on the back of the bell. It was out 10. I have too much runout on the flywheel as well. Brought it in to work and put it on the surface block. Good news is its not the crank face, bad news is jegs sent me a flywheel that's out .015, which is way too much. Gotta get a replacement.

Haha! My only consolation is that I'm building this thing without taking any shortcuts so it should be pretty dialed in once it's on the road. A few years ago I would have been flipping out over these setbacks, now I just keep pushing ahead.

I'm kinda digging on the one you made using the old school mounts.

I know much work you put into that to make it awesome! If anyone else is looking for an easier way to get it done here's his Facebook page...

Bell housing centered and faces, flywheel trued up, clutch and arm installed with throw out bearing. Now here comes the tricky part, mounting the slave cylinder. Looks like the header will have to be modified. More fun stuff ahead!
