I've just swapped the non working alternator and regulator (on the 383 fitted to my 39 Dodge) for an alternator with a built in reg'.With the regulator removed I joined the S and L wire's together and plugged the L wire into the D+ on the new alt'.Now she charges fine ,but...switch the key off and she continues to run! With the engine running there is power to the coil (even with the key off) but when I stall the engine there is none. Any idea's ? the ''electric's'' were fine before!

Put the ign. on a different circuit, or put a diode in the wire that fields the alternator to stop it from backfeeding the ignition.
