History Road Race Photos

Here are some pictures my Uncle shot, I am pretty sure at Riverside.

Very cool...

 

I used to live very close to the track. I raced on it, drags and autocross. When the big cars were running, I could hear them going up and down the gearbox while I was working on my Hot Rod. The finest drivers and cars in the world raced there, including the F-1 champs. I think I see Jim Hall's Chevy Chapparal. Long legacy including LA Times Grand Prix, and big bore sports cars, and NHRA drags. Now it's another shopping center.

 

I was hoping someone could identify cars or drivers. Thanks!

#6, Chapparal Jim Hall/Hap Sharp out of Texas, Chevy.

Cheeta, Bill Thomas creation, also a big time drag racer, Chevy 377 stroker, (NO DRIVESHAFT)

Ford Genie, V8 Ford, English chassis I think. ? A.J. Foyt driving ?

Cobra #98, what else can you say, the great Ken Miles piloting?

I think I see several Lola Fords, Dan Gurney ?

 

First photo is a Cheetah

 

Thoose were the days of race staffing, no concrete baricades, right up to the track, and real race cars. I miss thoose days.

 

I believe the 3 together tha look similar are Cooper Monacos. The 6 is the Chaparell MK III or IV the one just before the Vacuum Cleaner ground effects fan car.

Could the blue 20 something car be one of the early Mark Donahue Lola??

This fellow would probably enjoy having copies of those pics and may be able to ID the drivers.

Without knowing the year/event, hard to say for sure... but I believe 94-Parnelli Jones 97- Dave McDonald.

 

Very cool. Would be neat to know the year to get more accurate on the drivers as a lot of teams switched drivers but used the same cars and #s >>>>.

 

Going through my pics, I found this one of what is probably the Cheetah in the 1st pic...

 

Caption with this pic says its Ken Miles in a Cobra, at Riverside in '65.

 

Jerry Grant drove for Alan Green a lot in the early 60s, but...???

Damn I miss Riverside! I raced the "Last Off Road World Championships" there -
2 years in a row.

What great pics. How does one use slide pics, and post them? My Dad has "opening day" pics from Watkins Glen ,I'd like too share with you guys.
