Not that I could ever afford any of these cars, but I have to say, they are offering up some top shelf cars and would be nice just to see some of them up close if nothing else. I went to Pebble Beach show itself a few years back and that was definitely cool. But, never thought about the related auctions or other events. Just wondering what they are like and if it would be worth going just to see some over the top cool cars. http://www.rmauctions.com/ Hamber Dick Steinkamp's Kart Hauler: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/132 The Black Widow: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/106 This thing is awesome: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/64 http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/552 imagine driving around in this badass car: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/456 I need this: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/430 OK, way beyond over the top: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/438 I dig this van even, almost "affordable": http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/284 working in a small garage behind his house (must of had good drugs back then too): http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/258 Roth Road Agent: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/248 yeah, it's just another Cobra, but what the hell, I'd drive it: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/182 '89 was a bad year, apparently even for Lamborghini: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/164 seems kind of cheap: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/55b81963#/55b81963/138 Seems like a crazy variety of some awesome cars. Maybe I need to go check this event out. Some damn nice photography in this catalog too.
I am planning on being there from about the middle of the week through the weekend. I will be selling the Bowes Seal Fast Sprint car built by AJ Watson at the auction on Friday. I hate to do so but the car is part of my parent's estate. Hopefully it will go to a buyer that can put it back on the track in vintage events or in a museum where others will enjoy it.
It's very cool to go to the auction. It's an incredible car show all on it's own and it's interesting to watch people spend (in some case) millions like it's no big deal.
It's one of the few things you can do that the promoters don't charge an entry fee to just watch. You have to be a registered bidder to go to the auction floor, but you can see most cars from the run ups to the block. Most of the high dollar stuff is on display. If you do go make it on Fri eve. downtown Monterey, you can walk to three of the biggies and see alot, and the people watching is another show in it self.
A couple of years ago a buddy sent me tickets to the reception before the aution. As payment for the tickets he included an autograph jacket he has been 'working on" for a while. I was able to get Mario Andretti, Jay Leno and George Barris to sign the jacket! Got a few snaphots too. You had to pay something noth of $30-40 to get an up-close look at the inventory.
A few years ago I supplied some historical info on two cars that were in the auction, and requested a catalog as payment. SUPER, two truely highend catalogs in a hardcover jacket. Pebble Beach is on the top of my bucket list, just hope i live long enough to fund the trip. Post photos of you go, have fun!
Stopped in at one of the auctions being held in Monterrey on Pebble Beach weekend seven years ago. Most of the folks were dressed 3 or for cuts above my t shirt and Levis but it was a lot of fun to watch while my wife was out window shopping. You won't see a lot of hot rods going across the block unless things have changed some.
Usually you need a catalog to get in.Price can vary on those. It is a great car show though. There are some other rods being sold at those sales.I've actually seen some good deals go down. Being Californai, there is also a tax on the Buyer's Premium.Unless you get an ICC Carrier to take it away, you are liable for the taxes there too. Always read the terms ofthe sale.
Auctions at Monterey, Fine Automobiles at Pebble Beach, and Laguna Seca Raceway, What a weekend. I will be on the green at Pebble Beach this year for the first time and I am excited. Old time Bonneville racers are featured.
great auction, great location, great show, and don't miss the races!!! it is expensive, but there is nothing like it, first class all the way.
Every gear head needs to go to Monterey Auto Week at least once. I've been going for 20+ years. the Auctions are indeed worth going to. so is this little show : http://concoursdlemons.com/
For RM's catalog auctions, which are all their big ones like Monterey - the price is 120.00 which admits 2.
