I've just heard through the grapevine that Hot Rod legend and fabricator extraordinaire Phil Remington has passed away.

If that's true, Phil and his old All American Racers teammate, the late Wayne Leary -- one of the winningest Indy Car chief mechanics and one of the coolest guys I've ever known -- ought to be sitting down for a bench-racing session right ... about ... NOW.

Whew, Phil was such a vital link in the disappearing chain that kept Indy Car racing and hot-rodding bound together. He fabricated the stuff that today gets molded out of composite material. And, geez, no freaking autoclave can never replicate the kind of soul guys like Phil Remington put into their cars.

Sad that he's gone, but he sure had a Helluva run.

According to the latest TRJ, he just decided to retire recently.

He lived a long and good life, accomplished more than most of us ever will, and was an extraordinary gentleman from what I read. RIP to yet another hot rodding hero.

Wow, Hemi32, that's an awesome montage in memory of an awe-inspiring guy. Old Phil sure crossed a lot of lines, from sports cars to Indy Cars to hot rods ... and think of the number of young tin-benders who worked alongside him over the years, and how lucky they were to learn at the elbow of a master. Whoa ...

He used to come to COCOA club meetings fairly frequently and tell tales of Shelby American as well as his other racing stories.

The phrase living legend gets used quite a bit , but Phil Remington embodied everything that term ever meant . It must be a very dark day for Dan Gurney and the crew at All American Racers . RIP

Doane Spencer was asked once, while he was touting his skills. Is there ANYBODY as good as you are? He thought about it a while and replied.... Phil Remington. As good as Doanewas I think Phil out did him and really is/was the best ever! Period. The automotive world has lost an unparallelled Icon May GOD be with you Phil and thanks for all you've done!

Just received my TRJ this week. Very excited to see one of my favourite modifieds (or streamliners) ever on the cover. I certainly didn't expect to read this today. I will be reading that particular article with more interest and a little sadness. RIP Mr Remington.

Sad, but that's how it goes. I doubt he'll be forgotten anytime soon. Gary
