Thanx. I met Bill twice and he was cool, so I figured it was the least I could do for a legend.

Just read this. Sad news. One of my favorite drag racers of all time.

Bill Jenkins (, we never called him Grump ) in the pits. We ran his motors in Pro Stock truck. We asked him for power the first year of the class, but he didn't want to talk to us. The second year we bought a "hand me down engine" that Bill had built. We started running good enough that let us in his engine program.which mint $85,000 each copy. And we had to earn the right!

1972, Bluegrass Dragway, match race against Billy 'The Kid' Stepp's hemi Challenger. Bill was poetry in motion in that awesome Vega. His burnouts looked effortless and his dry hop would take him 100 yards down the track with him setting the front end down ever so lightly. He won it all that day and was oh so cool doing it.

The push is on to have the NHRA retire Pro Stock number 100. This is the number most recognized as belonging to Bill Jenkins. We're (initiated by Darwin Doll) looking to get as many people as we can, drop a line to the NHRA asking them to retire this number in honor of Bill.
Send your email to; [email protected]
In the subject line, I suggest, NHRA, Retire PRO 100-Bill Jenkins
