Hi I would like to use my original wheels on my 40 Willys they are 16 x 3.5 ". But I want wider rims/hoops that fit the centers. The diameter on the centers are 13 5/8 " does anybody know if there are any rims that size with safety beads 7 " wide would be best .
Check Chevy 6 lug truck wheels, probably mid 90’s. The standard low buck wheel, painted silver usually. The ID is very similar.
i would remove the center, then go around a junk yard test fitting to see what fits, then sell the 3 1/2" hoops to a guy wanting them for fronts. everybody is happy
About 50 years ago (can it really be that long since ?), I wanted some wider hoops on my wide 5 style VW wheels. I got some 14” wheels at my favorite “junk yard” and removed the centers from both sets of wheels. At that time I had access to a big lathe in our local high school shop and we chucked a VW drum in the lathe, with the wheel center attached, and turned it’s diameter to snugly match the hoop I was using. Put the rims on the centers, trued them and welded the centers to the hoops. As they say, “it looked factory”..... Ray
Yes, save those hoops so someone can put their regular 40 Ford centers in and make some "V8-60" wheels.
Thanks for the info Chevy 6 lug wheels are not common in Sweden but I have found a set of 8 lug G30 van wheels nearby that I will check
