Hey everyone, I have a 37 Ford truck. It has a dropped tube axel, wishbones, and shocks on the front. My question is it rides like a lumber wagon! I don't expect it to ride like a new car just wanted other peoples experience. Thanks
It's an old truck. It's supposed to ride like one! That being said, pics would help. It might be something as simple as the wrong shocks, too stiff. Or take a few leafs out.
Posie's Super Slide spring or equivalent, soft shocks and radial tires should yield a decent ride. That's for both ends, of course, not just the front.
how right you are with the posies super slide spring. Touring type radial tires with not less than 60 series with some sidewall to flex. Split wishbones with teflon or urethane type bushings. mike
This is why I went with a Mustang II front end on my 49 GMC. Of course a truck is supposed to ride like a truck, but grafting in the MII front suspension sure made my 49 ride like a caddilac.. Loved the ride that old iron had with that set up.
It has a two leaf spring in front, Pete n Jakes shocks and a set of hairpins. Sorry I said wishbones above. In the rear it has a pair of coil over shocks and two wishbone shaped bars welded to the rear end and a set of heim joints and bolts to a crossmember. It also has a set of pie crust slicks. Also it has no fenders and I like the look of a dropped axle front end. Thanks Again
When I first put my truck together it rode like a truck. With tube shocks it still rode like a truck. One day a friend told me it looked so smooth going down the street. It was then I realized the truck wasn't bouncing, it was the old untied coil springs in the seat bouncing me in the truck! So I took the stock spring seat out and put the upholstery on a differently-sprung van seat and all was good.
Ya gotta remember, back in '37, trucks were REALLY trucks. So, even with new shocks and slide springs, it's going to be a rough ride. It took a 5 mile ride in my T Bucket, for me to get that.
