Seen this on an older build thread and it shocked me. Yes or No to tack welding retainer to axle and why?

Circle track guys did that a lot to prevent the left side working out , personally, I never had that issue.if they are put on correctly they don't come off

  3. Why would a person need to? I'm pretty sure that's not a road I'm going to take. Changing it later just got a lot tougher, and I don't like the idea of welding on an axle shaft.

This has been discussed at length in the past. Half of us guarantee the axle shaft will break, while the others believe it's just fine.

Didn't intend to bring up something old, sorry. Just looking for a first reaction. I for one say No to this practice. End

We used to double ring the left side.

  8. With quality parts it should take about three tons of force to press the retainer on, do not weld it.

Don't like tack welding them, but I had do it once to get home after the axle walked out on me on a trip..

Depends on how hard going to be used I would be scared to see that on a drag car axle or something used in a similar fashion

  12. Definitely not on a road car, welding to a hardened axle will increase the chances of it breaking. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the press on shrink rings, only use them once though, never reuse them..
