Progress has been slow but still exciting.

Thanks to @Chris 50, I’ve got an interior ready to go for the coupe. It’s a pretty interesting story; this is an old Labaron Bonney interior purchased by a gentleman in IL back in ‘87. Chris passed along all the old order forms, shipping docs, etc from the original owner. Everything has survived the last 30 years pretty well. I reached out to LB to buy some fabric for the side arm covers; they’re about 3” too short and won’t quite stretch enough to cover.

Also worked with @mikesspeedshop.nc to develop to panhard bar for the original banjo. Just a little tweaking to the frame bracket and some final fitting and it will be ready to ready to go. This should allow me to run a little longer shackle in the rear if I decide it’s just not quite long enough.

Finally got around to replacing the rear cage nuts and fabricating the rusted portion of the inner rear panel. Still need to do a little clean up of the welds. No judgement on my work bench disaster and outdated Rodders Journal calendar.

Took the day off from work today and made a little progress on the coupe.

I wasn’t real happy with the repair I made on the bottom of the passenger door. I used one of the reproduction pieces but the bottom contour just didn’t match.

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the two contours just didn’t match. I welded this in early on when the door was off the car for the inner panel replace. I’m just getting around to fixing it today.

I had picked up the bottom of a trashed door some time back. It was a driver side door, but I felt I could make it work for the small section I needed for the passenger side of the car.

Hard to beat good old Henry steel for certain things. I’ll finish tig’n it in later.

Looks like it belongs there! So right about the repop patch panels, they are just a place to start. Nothing like the real thing. The only repop steel that’s close are the trunk/ floor panels, it’s hard to screw up flat!

After finishing the door repair, I decided to hand polish ‘ye ole’ lacquer. Not too shabby...I can actually see myself.

Progress has been slow but still getting closer. Managed to get a coat of primer on the roof and fender wells today.

Yea, that old laquer really shines up nice. I’m working on a 47 coupe that was painted in the early 60’s. Been sitting since 67-70. Shines up real nice, if course it’s black IMG_0334.JPG

Made some progress on painting the inside this afternoon. Slowly but surely; I’m getting there.

Looks great!!! Those are some very helpful pics, to us guys with rotten junk. Any chance you could shoot a few forward of the door showing the rocker / a-pillar / toe-board cowl area?

Ok, so I only had about an hour between work and home duties, but I did manage to get the floor bracing installed. Original wood, new T nuts and cork neoprene cushion gaskets.

Yesterday I was able to make a little more painting progress. I took a stab at blending the repair I made in the door with the rest of the original paint. I’m using Hirsch nitrocellulose lacquer. Here’s a shot of it after wet sanding with 600, no buffing yet. I ordered some better thinner this morning as I’m not real satisfied with the gloss or flow out. I’m open to opinions or any experience anyone is willing to share.

That bottom photo looks like a pretty good match to me!
I know from experience matching new paint to old is very difficult.

New roof ribs have been weathered, wrapped and ready to install. I couldn’t stand the look of new wood with an old ride. Planning on driving it open topped for a little while.

Got a couple days off this week, so I decided to weld in the LAST body patch I been putting off. Not real sure why I’ve been procrastinating so long on this as it only took 2 hours from start to finish. Anyway, here it is.

Also, @Chris 50, I decided to test fit the front mat....I think it’s going to work quite nicely. I can already envision it with a full ‘vintage’ Lebaron Bonney interior. I should have the seat back from the upholsterer in a couple weeks. I’ll be sure to share some photos.
