Damn nice car im 15 i just got my license, and i have 5 cars i bought within the three digit range. 1. 1939 chevy 2dr sedan gasser(only a roller) 2. 1940 chevy 2dr sedan original(being restored) 3. 1954 chevy 2dr sedan kustom(chopped dropped and just the way i like it) 4. 1955 chevy 2dr sedan(drag car/nostalgic gasser) 5. 1966 chevy belair 2dr
Hey, 54hotrodder. You got some sweet old iron there. I am envious. I can't wait for you to get your license. We need more young people our age to get into hot rodding. Looks like you have some excellent starts. Which one are you gonna drive to school first? I bet you will have the only one like it. I am the only kid who drives a diesel to school. I have the oldest vehicle in the parking lot and it's an 89. I live in a purdy small town. And, i love it. Everybody knows dad's yellow 57 Chevy Belair 2dr H/T Gasser. It's so fun. I can't wait to get my car done. There sill be two 57 chevys in town, and they will both be setting side by side in the same shed during the winter, if i get mine back by then.......
i will be able to drive my 54 chevy november 16th. Yah i have only one friend who likes cars in my school. i have my temps now and drive the car everywhere with my dad. My problem is i buy one car then i buy another one and never finish a project. My 39 chevy i got when i was 6 for my bday present from my dad. and have been buying since. lol its and addiction.
Well, I talked to grandpa today. The car is in primer. If he remembers tomorrow when he goes to the parts store, he is going to stop by the bodyshop and take some pictures. As soon as I get pictures, I will post them. 54hotrodder, I am guessing nov 16th in your birthday? Mine is nov 14th. Trust me. Having a license is soooo nice. Look in my albums. I have some pictures of my red Dodge Cummins. My advice: If you have a car trailer, get an old diesel truck (preferably a cummins as they get excellent mileage) and haul cars for people. It's GOOD money. And its CASH!!! And, wave at all the local cops. They like it and will usually not mess with you. Are you building a big block for your car? The reason i ask is the heads look like big block heads. Is that an electric fuel pump or hookups for NOS? GassersGarage, thanks. I can't wait to see it either. I ran across some more pictures of my car before we took it to the bodyshop. I will post those in another post.
Oh, 54hotrodder, I meant to add that I understand what you mean about one other kid at school that likes cars. The only other student at Chariton High School that likes cars is my Girlfriend. And that's just because I have been influencing her for the last year and a half. My dad has a yellow 57 Chevy gasser that we take to a local dragstrip. She didn't want to go for a ride with me in it and about chickened out in the staging lanes. When we got to the finish line, whe couldn't wipe the smile off of her face. Also, a drivers license also make having a girlfriend much easier.
Must be something in the water then as the reason we like '57 Chevys (and I owned 30 of them all at once when I was a "youngster")...Oh, btw, my birthday is November 20th. R-
54hotrodder, I love the old Dodge trucks to tears. My philosophy: Dodge trucks, Chevy cars, and Ford tractors. Thank you for saying you don't want a powerstroke or a 6.2 chevy diesel. A duramax, 01-07.5 are excellent trucks also. I would not have a diesel truck 2007 and newer. The 07 classics (look like 06s) are ok, also. I will take a cummins over all of them, though. Back on topic, 40StudeDude, I agree with the bad water deal. It must have to do with coming from Iowa. Where in Iowas are you from? I got the pictures from grandma. I will try to figure out how to post them. They are in some sort of a compressed folder. I will post them in another post when I figure it out. Thanks to all. -Phillip Masters
Small town of 4500 (when I grew up there anyway) west and north of you, right on Highway 30...named Denison. Only 70 miles to Omaha or Sioux City...got into lots of trouble in Omaha with a three year old '57 Chevy 150 two door sedan...had a very hot six in it...lots of V8 owners found out they couldn't beat me thru the quarter mile... The first book I wrote (Bangin' Gears") is about terrorizing all the small towns around my home town and all the illegal racing we did...we had fun...!!! R-
Awesome car. I got my '56 Chevy at 18, wish I coulda got the head start you have! I have a 4-door too, I've gotten a lot of crap about that. Just ask the guy what they're driving and they usually shut up. (Unless it's somebody on here! ) And I love it, there's nothing better than loading the car up and going out cruising!
Gasoline Junkie, I love the paintjob. You have to double- and triple-take to tell it's a 4dr. I am already catching flak from my hot hodder friends about a 4dr, but I shouldn't flip it back, but I do. One has a 59 corvette, the other has a 67 fleetwood, the brothers have several 60's mustangs, including a 68 Shelby. I really can't compete, but I don't care.
Here are some pictures of our 2012 HAMB DRAGS experience. The first picture is of our base camp at the Holiday Inn parking lot and cars that we took to the drags. The white Corvette didn't come form here, but rather from Section, Alabama. It belongs to PapaTom. The black corvette we pulled out of a barn after 44 years of setting. The owner, an excellent friend of ours, has helped us all out on our cars, so we all decided to pitch in and get his car ready for the drags. It took form october 2011 til now to get it where it is. It has a 377 SBC with aluminum heads and an original Edelbrock STR10 Crossram intake with dual 650 Holleys. The Black Ford also belongs to our friend, Bill, the owner of the Corvette. Dad drove it this and last year. It has a 454 BBC with a 250 B&M Blower and aluminum racing heads, courtesy of PapaTom. I drove the yellow 57. It's my dad's car that I have been talking about. It has a 327 SBC thats "kinda" hot. It definately does OK for what it is, though. We have a Tunnel Ram wiht dual Holleys that is going on it for next year. The second picture is of the cars setting on the trailers before we unloaded them at the MO-KAN Dragway on the day of the drags. Enjoy, -Philroy
heh...if you put blowers on them, you wouldn't need trailers The paint job looks like it's progressing....hard to say how it'll turn out, but it does look like the normal condition of a car that's been primed and block sanded and ready for the next coat of primer
Squirrel,I agree. The plan for next year is to drive dad's 57 down there and maybe follow him in mine, if it's road-ready by then. I sure hope it is. I got several good pictures and videos of your car. I was showing the pictures and videos of the drags to dad's friend he bought his 57 off of this evening, and he fell in love with your 55, and rightfully so. It is an absolutely beautiful car. Hopefully the body-shop-guy gets my car done by Christmas time, so that we can bring it back when we go down for Christmas. I have been working on my video of the drags some more just to pass the time. Not much calculus homework yet. I have been reviewing the footage from my camera that was constantly running that was setting on the guardrail at half track. I have video and can get pictures of any cars that ran coming by it if anybody wants. Thanks to all. -Phillip Masters
Lucky you, I'm in pre-calc and I have a TON! Its driving me nuts not being able to go work on my truck. Your car is looking good though.
KustomCars, Thank you very much. 55Hydramatic, Just wait. It all sucks. I have had 5 tests this week out of 7 classes. I have been studying non-stop. It's finally Friday and I have no homework. Tomorrow afternoon, me and the Girlfriend are takin dad's 57 thru a local parade, so we should have fun. We got a new chemistry and anatomy/physiology teacher this year. She taught at a school about 20 miles away with about 35 kids per grade, and got fired. Now she is teaching at our school a subject that she has never taught. Ther are roughly 135 kids in my grade. It is a big step up and she is a horrible teacher. She thinks that since she is a teacher, we owe her respect. Respect is something you earn. It is not something that is bestowed upon you. She knows little to nothing about what she is teaching. When in the lab, she says you are doing something wrong, but when you ask what, she storms off in frustration and never answers why. I am planning on going to school to be a pharmacist, so I need to know chemistry. I am just venting. Monday before school, I am going in to talk to the principle about her. Oh well. I talked with gramps tonite, and he said that he hasn't driven by the bodyshop in a few days and has no progress reports on the car. I have been working every evening after school on polishing the stainless trim. I am almost done. Hallelujah!!! Anyways, thanks to everybody who deserves it, and to some that don't. -Phillip Masters
Well, It is finally in paint. I got the phone call this morning. Grandma got me some pictures fired right off so here they are. It has been a long time coming, and it's finally done. I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. The paint turned out to be a little more orange than I hoped, but it's all good. I am glad it's done, and looks good, too. It does have some orange-peel and sand-scratches, but they will all buff out. And, if they don't, I can always sand it down smooth and shoot it with clear. Here you go. Hope you enjoy. Please let me know what you think.
I think it looks good! The original matador red was quite orange, similar to the 55 gypsy red but different. How long till you get it back together and back home?
Finally...lookin' good ...bet you're stoked...now get that stainless back on it...!!! I think I owe you another e-mail...I assume you got my first...??? R-
Philroy, I just tuned in on your thread, great story and your car is looking good. I too share your love for 57's, I have 3 including one that was owned by my Grandfather. Keep up the good work...looking foward to progress pixs.
Squirrel, Thank you. I didn't know it they were that orange or not. I figured it would be a little more red that that, but I love the way it looks as it is. It sure beats old, faded paint and bondo. I think that there is a chance it will come up here on my cousin's transport in a week or two. I hope it works out. 40StudeDude, Thank you. I got your e-mail. I forgot to let you know I got it. That thing looks sweet. I can't wait to get your next e-mail. KustomCars, Thank you very much. gmstuff, Thanks. It's awesome that you have your grandfather's car. I have 2 tractors that both belonged to 2 of my great grandfathers and one tractor that belonged to my grandfather. I also have most of my other grandfather's guns. I would never sell any of them. -Philroy
I think it's just great you have your very own 57 Chevy. I have a 57 210 hardtop I bought from a wrecking yard 1980. Its next on the project list.
I got an e-mail from grandma this evening with some pictures and thought that I ought to post them. Grandpa went and picked it up today, so they got some pictures of it in the driveway. Here you go, let me know what you think. -Phillip Masters
