GREAT JOBS ON THOSE HEATERS & FANS !

Steve Frisbie of Steve's Auto Restorations has been restoring some of those for many years for himself and his customers. In fact, I think there was an article a few years back in Street Rodder or Rod & Custom that showed how he did it. If you haven't done it before you might try to check the archives & find the story.

Whatever the case...Cool Stuff ! Ya done good !!

back in my ebay days I sold a few. I restored 3 vintage "Harrison" (GM cars) heaters from the 40's and got like 200 - 300 bucks each. ended up buying about 10 others over time and there they sit in my stuff to fix up and sell someday shelf.

they are cool though, like little works of art.

here's one thing I have found out about the motors, if it doesn't work the most likely cause is the cloth wire grounding out on the case. I used to get a little shrink tubing and slide it in the hole and heat it up and that fixed almost every one I had that didn't spin. the six volt motors seem to work well on 12. I had one in my 49 sedan for 3 years with no problems.

were did you find this finish...this is what i wanted instead of regular hammer coat .

  5. Got this from a HAMB'er a few years back, took it apart, re-cored it, cleaned and painted the rest, barely fits in the Model T with the firewall setback, but it does fit... still 6 volts, works just fine...
Don't have any before shots, I did until my old Macintosh computer threw a rod....

Any more Southwind heaters either restored or converted over with a heater core?

Anyone have a “Eureka” brand heater? Didn’t see any so far, but some of the pics didn’t come through.

Does anyone have one of these? No makers name anywhere. Please post a pic or describe in detail the finish on the 3 vent doors. Thanks. John 100_3383.JPG

  11. Since the topic is heaters my wife’s 33 has a vent or bleeder screw at the top. It started leaking from there. Is there an o ring or valve to replace it with? I think is to burp the system
I have to pull it to check the system. We bypassed it with the heater valve on the head.
I just never have worked on one of these yet. This car is mostly all original. The heater is all original with the Parkerized used finish. And the fan is super quiet.

I don't have a before pic, but here is the Tropic-Aire heater that came in my '36 Ford cab when I got it out of the junkyard, after I fixed it up a bit. The core was shot so I made one from copper tubing and aluminum flashing. It uses a small computer fan and works pretty good.

  16. I have a thing for these old heaters..brings so much character to these old cars, aside from being practical.
At swap meets, I have to control myself..seems I think I need to bring everyone I see home.

Cool looking bugger. I've got a couple of square Decco heaters out in the shed an one in one of my trucks that I plan on redoing, I won't say restore because I'll go though the heater core catalog and pick an easy to find one that comes close to fitting with the inlet and outlet in easy to work with spots and adapt it.

I found that 12volt dash fans for semis and busses work well in these heaters .
