I've used these VIN tags Jim is talking about with no problems. I've placed them in a location of my choice and they were never questioned. Then again I've also read about states like North Carolina who broke chops on the way some original VIN tags were attached. Guess it all depends how astute your states DMV and law enforcement is. Yes, I'll vouch for the "chop busting" in N.C. Going back to the O.P. back in 2009, I wonder how he knew his serial number and car were "legit", if the serial number tag was missing from the car ?
