I have a clean 32 k member that I’m hoping to use in an early build . However the cup / socket that the wishbone mounts into is badly damaged . I’m looking for some advice on how to repair it .

    Thanks

    Dom

I've seen people, on here I think, use the removable cup (opposite piece) as a repair piece after they cut out the damaged one....

    clear as mud haha

Maybe pictures of the damage would help?

Find a good one , cut the old one out , cut grind , fit and weld the good one in

    You'd make a great politician .
If I had a good one I probably wouldn't need to repair a bad one ;-) . Im also in England so shipping an entire cross member isn't the cheapest thing to do , hence wanting to repair this one.

Thats really quite obvious not sure why I didn't think of that. Does any one know if all wishbone cups are alike or do they change though the years?

Some are deeper than others. I bought one off eBay and used it as an upper to drop mine for trans pan clearance, it was 1/2” deeper than mine. Sorry, don’t remember what it was for.

  10. This is from the thread by @swissmike on his 1939 Merc build...a very good thread overall (click on the quoted section to expand with all the pictures etc.), but this section shows his repair to the wishbone socket.

Model A Fords use a two piece cup. You might be able to graft the Model A cup into your crossmember, plus it's a lot easier to ship.

RoadsterDom, the roadster in your avatar looks very like the one I built and sold unpainted to Paul Hobby. Reg was YUX I think. Is that it? If so how's it going?

trailer hitch isn’t a bad shout
That @swissmike tech tip is impressive

I think a model a one is the wrong size , probably a question best asked on the ford barn but certainly using a bolt in cap is the best idea .

Hey Chris , yep one and the same have just dropped you a message with some pics and what have you .

I’m so sorry , I did not notice you were not on American soil . I understand now that finding a usable one could be s bit impossible . Maybe use a copper backer and weld it up and grind and polish it maybe an option . Again I’m sorry and good luck .
