I have always wanted to reproduce those spinner hubcaps. Does anyone know their origins. Larry Watson's chevy had some like it too.

I believe this is a clone of moonglow built in Detroit a while back.

Richard Glymph's car. One of my all time favorites.
It was at the very first Lead East where I fell in love with this one.
Does anyone know if Richard still owns this car?

The Moonglow is a close second on my list of favorites. Number 1 being the Hirohata merc.

  11. Dave, Where did you guys live? I know it ran around Long Beach, and the RJ poster I have of it was taken at the old Los Altos shopping center.

Hmmmm I have only one in my online collection. I thought I had many more... but those must have been in my memory. I stared a lot at the magazine photos of this one... so nice, especially in the time it was built.

This one is from the KustomLincolnLady collection.

Luke, Richard sold it a long time ago. Went overseas, I believe to Sweden?

  14. I thought the original Moonglow speaks Japanese nowadays or am I missinformed. But back then they bought a car new and totaly kustomized it and Moonglow is not a mild kustom. But it is still to this day an icon of kustoms and classy as ever. Rags

Here's a Larry Watson photo I picked up a few years ago.
Hope I don't step on anybodies toes by scanning it.

I've edited the URL to reflect the new gallery. I've also added several sub-galleries:

    Moonglow Clones: photobucket.com/MoonglowClones

    My car: photobucket.com/thehotrod54chevy

    Similar cars: photobucket.com/SimilarCars

    and cars in general: photobucket.com/hotrodcars

HAMBers, I added some of your cars to these galleries. If I stepped on someone's toes or you just don't want them on there, let me know and I'll delete 'em.

When I was a teen my best friends dad use to take us to Charlie Brewers shop almost every week. He had him do work on his 51 Merc and we would stop by just to see what he was into.
I was lucky enough to see the moonglow he was building. I remember week to week how fast charlie was. I couldnt believe he could turn out work for a customer and work on the moonglow on the side.
Heres another small note the guy that C notched the rear of the one Charlie built is Bill Roark. They use to trade work. Hes another old time custom builder that hasnt had much said about his work.
He would build a car and have people come by and buy it and then a year later it would show up in a magazine with no credit for his work.
I sent Rikster pics of one of Bill Roarks last builds, he has them on his fotki site. My friend owns it now. Bill is in poor health.

LOL Like I needed another reason to like Social D... :) I showed my wife some of my Moonglow gallery, and she said "You're obsessed with that car!" and I told her it was one of many! Also had to explain why our cat's middle name was Hirohata... :D

Great ride with a perfect combination of taste, style and restraint. It's subtle yet full of body mods. really a perfect custom

Anyone know what kinda hubcaps Moonglow and Grapevine had? Were they Lancers? Olds caps with extra bars? Fiestas and flippers mixed?

I think the caps were on the moonglow before lancers were available. Not positive but I think maybe the olds caps. Roger

Glad to see this threat back...one of the great customs, mostly built in Duane's driveway, the first version, anyway.....always wondered how Duane's brother happened to be driving by the wrecking yard when the 'glow was being crushed...saved one of the windwings, but what a lucky chance (or maybe not, must have been sad to see it gone...(someone said it earlier, customs had mostly and sadly died out by that time, glad they are back)

I always thought it was 53 Olds Fiestas with more fins added, the hubcaps that is.
