We have been touring around Newfoundland, Prince Edward's Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick for about a month now. The highlight of our trip was to meet with Chris Dunn, HAMB Andy's father, and see Andy's car which was built with many, but not all, donations from HAMB members. Andy's car is in pristine condition, here is just one of the pictures I took,,,,more to follow. Also Tony Fitzpatrick and Bill Norris, two of the Dunn family friends were at Chris's house to meet with us as well, they were both instrumental in the build. Such gracious hosts they all were. Thank you.
Every time I think about Andy my keyboard get's flooded. To this day, it just amazes me what this tight knit community of Hoodlum's did for that young man. Dammit... my keyboard is wet again...
I have often thought of his father's post about right before Andy died. His father left the two boys in his pickup to go into a store. When he came out the two were sitting in the back of the truck sharing a beer and laughing like fools. I wonder what Andy would have become in life, I am sure he would have been happy and successful.
Hi Vicki, good to hear from you, hope all is well. i was thinking about Andy last week and found this photo on my computer. HRP
The better question would be, "How could you possibly forget HAMB Andy?" Andy was a fine young man who faced incredible challenges with grace and courage well beyond his years. We are a richer community for having had him around, albeit for too short of a time. I hope his family is doing well.
It was great meeting you both! There were so many around the world helping out as they could but of course it was never likely any of us would ever meet, considering the distance and our somewhat remote location. Didn't matter...we were all united in a cause and we pulled it off. It was enjoyable, yet a bit sad of course to rehash those days with you guys. Good for the soul. According to Dad Chris, the A gets out once in a while and has never missed a beat or given any issues since the day Andy first drove it. Andys brother Matt drove it to town and back in June apparently. I can only imagine how it makes them feel to get it out on the road every now and then, with Andys plaid jacket sitting on the back seat.... Bill
You won't find better people than Canadian east coasters in any of our Atlantic provinces. Our best friends are RCMP in Nova Scotia so we have been back many times to stay and tour around with them. We met long time ago when they were posted here in BC before they got transferred back east. All of PEI is stunning and the south shore of Nova Scotia is also gorgeous! Lunenburg, Mahone Bay some of my favorite places to go.
That little guy did pull us together. Good to see that the family still has the car and it still gets some exercise once in a while. I still have Hamb Andy shirt tucked away. I did wear it to a show once and then washed it and put it away. The plaque is in my chest that sits on top of my dresser.
