I didn't locate much assistance on how to reinstall the wood top after you fill in the roof. So I'll add my way of doing it.

Attach the bows to the side pieces. Attach only the driver's side rear corner bracket. As shown here:

Install the partially assembled wood top. When installing angle the top to position the driver's side rear corner bracket first. Then lift the top into place. secure by placing screws into the brackets just forward of the B pillars. (I never removed these brackets. If you did, install them first.)

Trim the passenger rear corner bracket like this:

I made a piece to replace the area removed from the bracket -- sort of a double washer/clamp thing (16 ga):

Install the passenger rear corner bracket and "double washer" piece:

Trim both driver and passenger front brackets like this:

These front brackets can now be installed by positioning them about 8" back, then sliding forward into their correct position.

    That's it.

    Note:
Accessing the hidden nut on the front bracket is tricky. I will probably weld a nut or use a nutsert.

Good luck. Any questions, let me know.

I'm wondering if your plan will work on my tudor roof wood the same way. It was pretty well gone when I got the body, mostly with the metal brackets only remaining. I picked up the bows for a four door on here but haven't tackled the side structure yet. The steel insert was already put in years ago and isn't too bad, leaded in, no bondo!

Me too. I just finished a tudor. Wish I replaced the wood.

    Thanks all.

The front corner brackets go behind the angle, although I’m not sure how’d you do that with the filled roof. IMG_0946.JPG

Originally, yes. But, I didn't see that it made much difference.

    Nice tech article.
I may be needing it depending on the answers to the following.......
My question is, if you fill the roof, do you really need the wood, apart from something to tack upholstery to and some where to put an interior light ?
    Thanks. Clemens.

I do not believe it is needed. I'm sure it provides "some" additional structural support, but I did it to retain the beautiful look of the wood.

Thanks for the post. Your piece answered allot of questions. My '31 is missing all the top wood shown in the post including the piece above the windshield, but I have all the brackets. All the window surrounds as well as long pieces above the door are in place. I plan to make all parts you have described. Thanks again.
