apologies if this has been done before, but is there a car/vehicle you regret not buying?
Around the time I was reasonably new on here I was really interested in buying a 1946 Chevy panel truck that was for sale here on hamb. It had belonged to a shop/store that specialised in model trains/railways and still had their details sign written on it.
Looking back, the price was fair, but I was/am approx 3500 miles away and had never bought a car from overseas before. I often look on that as "the one that got away".
    I don't even have a pic saved.
Anyone else have the same type of experience

Only one that ever bothered me was a ‘56 Chevy PU with a 4 speed and stuck 235. This was when I was in HS (78/79). Guy wanted 350 for it, I only had about 250 bucks and didn’t have the balls to ask my dad for some money.
Funny, not one of my 3 girls have that same issue with me;)

does not sound so much as the one that got away but, you were being obviously cautious about purchasing a car so distant with all of the costs involved and not knowing for sure what you were about to purchase - long distance purchases happen on a regular basis - but, better to be cautious rather than sorry for talking your self into something that you were not 100% comfortable with - for myself, the one that comes to mind was seeing a '41 Willys coupe with racing history at a car show for a very reasonable price- I walked away and then decided I should go back to do the deal - this was less than 15 minutes later - someone else already made a deal - there have been others too - but, there will be other rides to buy ahead - plus, there are rides that I wish I never sold too

Twenty years ago I looked at a 60 Ford two door sedan, I was thinking of a 460 for it with a drag car feel. It had all the moldings and full interior and not much rust. I can't remember the price but I'd bet that's what shut me down.

  5. Brings to mind a few: passed on a 57 Tbird E code for $1500 because there was one rusted inner quarter panel....passed on a 65 GT350 for $1000 because I wasn't really into Mustangs....passed on a 60 Corvette for $800 because I was a dumb shit.

Thank you to the OP here. My thinking is that It would be more surprising if someone on this forum didn’t have one get away.

Passed on a 1956 chevy ragtop with spare tire carrier option for $1000 because I had 57 that I was constantly working on.

  10. About 4 years ago I bought a 57 Chieftan 2dr HT from a fellow in Nevada & he also offered me a 57 Pontiac wagon which was also a clean car that had been sitting quite a while, but was complete. I passed & bought a 64 Chevy pickup from him instead, along with the 57 2 door. Turns out the wagon ran & drove. After a tune up & oil change the guy that bought it drives it every day!

    God Bless

I think I have far more cars I regret selling than I ever missed out on buying.

The one car I did get my dad to go look at with me was a ‘55 Chevy. No engine, had tuck and roll or Diamond tuck in it, with a Muncy
I think, been many years, but the price was 250 or 350, my dad said “let’s get out of here”. The rear wheel wells had some funky cutout with what looked like a 1/2 tube welded over the opening.
I didn’t pass, but pops said “no way”. Lol. We talked about that years later, by then we’d had a mig welder and a old heliarc, “could have fixed that car”. Good memories!

I passed on a very nice 65 Vette for $23K because it smelled stale. Probably just needed a new carpet kit.

  24. Way back in the day my friend had a beautiful '41 Ford coupe, metallic blue with scallops. 265 or 283 engine with 4x2 intake, Hydramatic, Corvette hubcaps and steering wheel, nice interior. All around neat car. Was asking $1200. Would have snapped it right up but it may as well have been 12 million in my circumstances. 60 years later I still think of that car regularly.

  26. Back in the mid '70s I looked at a restored '38 Ford pickup that purred like a kitten. I thought $1200 was too much for that truck. I'm also sorry that I sold my '50 Dodge and my T roadster...
I'm still happy with the Thunderbird.

One ,didn't have enough $ for, only about $500 short of $1500 for crashed 63 Avanti, was only the right front fender n all the pices were there ! I knew how to fix boats!
Long before that,a Cord with 2 bad tranny shift solenoids @ $200,the insides looked like a tiger war,but Dad said no,he would not sign for it !even though I had the cash,an thought I could fix it all.
Two miss's that bug me thinking back.

lots probably but perhaps the two I should have chased harder , Bugatti 4 Cylinder (I'm tempted to go look again, pretty sure its still un-discovered) and a Mercedes 300SL roadster. The 300Sl was hotrodded, had a 327 and auto, inner guards hacked, , steering hacked, looked like a late 60's sort of mess but they did go to the trouble of making "327 SL" badge for the rear (instead of 300SL). The car was owned by a local pilot who wanted it registered, the guy who looked at it deemed it dangerous and refused to work on it, so I went to look. Spoke to the now long ago EX who was adamant it was a waste of money (should not have ever listened to her about anything). Probably could have had it for US$8-10K (its not in the US). Owner spat the dummy and took it home, dunno what happened to it. This all dates to 1985-1990.
