  1. If it's out there, the HAMB will find it.

I sent an email to the guys that put on the O'Reilly StreetFest Car Show (Friday and Saturday in El Paso). I am thinking a couple of cool cars driving together on Sunday might have been coming home from a car show. That was the only one I could find that worked with their direction and time etc. Who knows...

Archaic flames? I thought you might be going for iconic, but then realized that perhaps you meant "nobody uses them anymore."

Yes, it is some kind of hot. My wife and I took Hwy 90 W. from San Antonio to Van Horn on our trip to LARS in '15 just to get off the interstate. It takes so freaking long to get to N.M. at least the last 300 miles is somewhat scenic. A buddy from Lake Arrowhead kids me about Tucson being our third night when we go to Cal. When he visits his parents, he stops at Tucson for coffee and a pee break on his non-stop 23 hr trip. We manage to reach Needles on our fourth day of travel. Even though we are old and decrepit, being in the roadster is fun although we probably make the same time today that a Model A did in 1930. We intend to make at least one more trek to Cal to see our friends Cyclone Kevin Preciado from Temple City with his '29 A V8, and Bruce Omohundro a.k.a. paintslinger805 from Nipomo with his recreation of his Grandfather's Deuce roadster who raced in the late '40s on El Mirage AND streetraced on Colorado Blvd. These two young boys just finished their roadsters enough to hit El Mirage in May. HELL YES ! That's what it's about ! ! P.S. If you are passing through Texas in deep Summer months, an A/C is highly recommended. I surely hope that old firebug Ryan doesn't read this. If he does, it was nice knowing you HAMBers.

If you are hungry when you reach Van Horn, find Chuy's Mexican Cafe. It is possibly the last Tex-Mex chow you will find, if you like that kind of mexican food.

  12. Don't go in the winter either... Several cars and semi's piled up in two inches of snow by Van Horn... While I was stuck on the road waiting for the life flight to do their thing a semi truck filled my rear view mirrors and made an accordion out of my van...

oddly enough, i just caught a piece about the odd lights in marfa while watching the weather channel. they had a scientist explain how automobile headlights cause these "mirages," but at the end, they said the lights have been reported as far back as the 1890s...

You should also kick yourself for not stopping in Marathon as a real true Knowbody lives there.

I noticed this thread was stickied, and finally took a look at it.

I wonder if you'd get anywhere by changing the title to "anyone seen a flamed T bird in Texas?"

I did a search for thunderbird hot rods and came across attached article. It mentions Birdsapalooza, a Tbird drag race in the Dallas area. Also mentioned is Ernie Phillips of Tyler. There's a reasonable chance Mr. Phillips might know of your particular bird....worth a try.1956 Ford Thunderbird - Featured Vehicles - Hot Rod Network

You know, you might just have something there, Mike. After all, the young fellow does own a '38 Ford with a (cough) WHY-block in it. I've thought about pulling him aside at the next Roundup and have a sort of father-son talk. LOL

I'm surprised, I thought that Hambers could find and track down any obscure car anywhere :D

  27. maybe the long hot day in the sun, the "Lost horse" the night before and the fact the dry desert road tends to play tricks on the mind...........a Prius viewed at speed through the dusty haze..........

  28. I contacted a couple T-bird clubs in the nearby areas via email. They never replied. Probably too pissed to reply because it wasn't bone stock like theirs.;):D
