How strong is 1 1/2"x 3.0"x 3/16" rec tube, compared to a boxed original? I know they use this in 1/8" wall for T-buckets. I want to use it for a slightly longer and heavyier car, what do you guys think?

1.5X4X.125 would be my choice Or 2X4X1.25... 3/16 is pretty stout...probably more than you need.

when building frames for drag racing NHRA says min of 2"x3"x1/8" so I would say that should be the min for any car

Good night, 3/16 wall should not cause you any concern for strength. You could build a bridge out of lesser stuff.

steel you talked about is great for x members If it is what you have use it 1/8 boxed is sufficient.Alittle overkill but not that bad.
