Rear tire/body clearance on Model A Coupe

    I think a stock Model A axle width was around 56"...

    The rims are 48 Merc 5" wide...
     
  3. 56" on the A axle would have to be the wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. I was just out in the garage and measured m rear A axle inside back of the backing plate to the other side was just over 50".

    An early Bronco rear end ('66-'77) is right around 58" wheel mounting to wheel mounting, and the pumpkin is already centered. It's just about right for a Model 'A'. It also has the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. I know the '48 Ford wheels are 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. Are the Mercury wheels 5.5" too?

    Yes, 5 1/2" bolt pattern...
