Hello all,I have a 51 Ford V8 and I need to know the rear end gear ratio. I would like to run a 200r trans. and keep the stock rear. Wondering if that will work out. Oh ya,it will have a 283. Cant seem to find any info on the net.

Depending on what engine and trans your Ford had when new, it is probably a 3.70, 3.90 or 4.10. Any of which would work with an Overdrive Automatic and a 283. They would range from about 2.60 to about 2.75 effective ratio.

  6. Unless your 51 Ford is a pickup.

Thanks for the info guys. It was a flathead with a 3 speed so it must be a 373. Should work well with an overdrive.
