I hope I'm in the right forum here. Looking for technical advise, manuals, video, anything to help me install an emergency brake on my 1928 Ford Tudor. It's sitting on a Pete and Jakes frame and running an 8 inch Ford rear axle. Need to know what is a good brake kit and what all is needed at the rear hubs.
I used the stock brakes and a Lokar cable kit. For a handle, I used a universal handle for equipment such as a forklift.
It depends on a lot of different things, you could use of those pull up handles like the Mustang II used stock or use a T handle under the dash like a lot of 40's and 50's cars and trucks used or a handle beside the shifter much like what's beside the shifter on a lot of late 49's trucks. Or you can spend a crap load of money and buy a "kit". Cable you can swag on ferrules yourself to shorten the cable or have a local shop (industrial or boat) that works with cable products make up what you need.
Going to use an old swap meet handle. I need a diagram of the brakes I have to make sure all is there. (Brake lever for the hand brake) Someone asked me how many times have I used a hand brake? I said never because I don't have one. If he would have asked how many times I needed one the answer is once. Don't want that to be twice.
Stuff in rear brakes. There is a flat offset forked strap that goes from the front shoe to the actuating lever. It has an anti rattle spring on it. The actuating lever pushes on the strap and the rear shoe. It has a stud that C clips to the rear shoe. The cable has a spring that retracts the lot. I use the hot rod style cables in the sheaths.
