I am building a 28 tudor. I have a Ford 9" that is too narrow and an 51 Ford F1 rear that is great width wise but the drums are too large. Im trying to run 35 Ford wire wheels. A buddy suggested using a 40 Ford rear but that is proving hard to find and pricey. any suggestions? Needs to be 54 to 57" from backing plate to backing plate.

57-59 ford nine inches are 57 1/4" I believe, as are the early mustang 8" (double check me on that)

I used a 57 Ford Wagon 9 inch under mine and it is a bit over 54 inches. It would fit under my 66 Mustang without modification. I didn;t know that Ford made any 9 inchers less than 54. This rearend had the same spring spacing as the 8 inch under the Mustang. With the proper offset steelies from WheelKid, it worked fine under my 31.

Are you talking drum to drum or flange to flange?

Thx for the help guys. Guess I'm headed to the junkyard. Ideally id like to find one that will require the last amount of mods for the wire wheels.
