Ray Farhner's Jaguar-based X-Ray has been revamped and cobbled several times over the decades, but it is restorable and I think it may be a bargain for an actual iconic '60's showrod type car. I shot this in about '68 after Ray changed the configuration which originally had a hinged original '61 Jag Coupe top. The original beautiful rolled black leather seats by Art West are long gone.
That is a great car, I tried to buy it a couple of times over the last 15 years but the guy that had it wanted about twice what it was worth to me... Customs of this type especially needing restoration do not do well at Barrett Jackson , I bet it goes for dirt cheap or the owner ends up " bidding it in " and taking it home Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Archive/Event/Item/1969-FARHEN-XRAY-CUSTOM-ROADSTER-181574 Definitely needs resto but for the most part looks complete. I hope it gets restored.
The totally 80's paint and wheels really kill the look, I'd love to have something like this and put it back to it's original version, or as close as I could get within reason. Anyone care to guess what "cheap" price this would sell for?
Here is a pic with the top, this was and still is a great car Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
THAT'S IT!!! I still remember this car on the cover of R&C, and liking the styling but being disappointed with the 'fake' blower/injection. Look closely, it's just sitting on the cam covers....
Register and phone your bid in, you may take it home. A repaint to original would be straight away. It's not like you need to do a ton of body work like most old Customs that are rust buckets. Change out the rolling stock. There isn't much interior to replace. Here's a couple of other things that may cause the car to go cheap; Reserve NO RESERVE **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY** Wonder why it isn't titled? It's pictured with CA. plates...
I tried to get Rudy to trade X-Ray for my 2005 Lotus Elise w/10k miles on it straight up about three years ago. With the auction fees, he would have been money ahead since my Lotus was worth more than 30k at the time. Ah, well...
I now regret talking Ray into setting the fake blower on top of the engine for that shoot with photog Grier Lowry! Hey I was only 19 at the time, gimme a break! Ray was touring the "Chrisman Coupe/Barris Dobie Gillis Car" at the time and that's where we got the blower...it wasn't even bolted on!
