About 100- 125 hp, that's what a 151 Chevy S-10 motor is.I have enough spare parts to build a HA/GR except the motor. The cost of buying and rebuilding a pre 1962 motor would be more than I would be willing to spend. Too bad there isn't a 1962 and older class...

Many of the '60-'62 inliners were made on into later years in the same molds, some as late as '76 (ie, the slants). These are generally accepted as they're literally the same as the first models, and they're available quite cheaply. Ford, Chevy and Chrysler (Dodge & Plymouth) all had'em, and I'll bet there are others as well.

I'm from Northern Indiana. I have been reading other posts discussing HA/GR legality with the NHRA. What I have concluded is to build one of these gas dragsters I will have to follow NHRA rules for an altered dragster. Basiclly a funny car frame with a full width front and rearend. This makes sense. I believe I can still use rectangular tubing for the bottom frame. I'm still thinking on an engine...

No pictures yet.......I'll take some tomorrow, but the chassis is on wheels and rolls!!

If everything goes right, I should have the engine core set in place next week and start working on the details like clutch linkage, drive shaft, steering and such.

I have the engine, just need to go through it before it runs.

That's the "easy part". The flathead Dodge is an easy build and parts are available so when all the other stuff gets done and I tear the car down for paint and such, the engine goes on the stand and gets done. When it goes back together we'll be ready to rock.

Never said I was the fastest builder, but we're getting there slowly but surely.:D

Doug, you have my sympathies, I'm from Elkhart.
Lakes winters are a BIG reason I'm in SoCal.

You have several folks around the brickyard who'll be glad to help out, even from a distance. They're very well versed in HA/GR down there.
In that the class has been around long enough for a few to get out of it now, there may even be a used car or chassis available that could be NHRA'd with reasonable effort.

Must say regardless of any other opinions.......I Like It!!

Got some pieces made on Friday for the steering box mount and hope to have the engine set in place sometime next week.

Man, your dragster is truely one of a kind! It looks ten times better outside and up on wheels. Oh, it would be so sweet if it could be run with a shoulder high single rollbar and no body panels. A real BUG.

Hey Mitch, just doin' my best to keep hotrodders ingenuity alive.

We may not be the fastest, but we're tryin' with everything we have to make sure the spirit stays alive!!

The car WILL be light and quick, we just have to see what the "hole saw concept" can make happen.:D

You know the saying take off lbs. and gain HP. As you know I work for parts at a machine shop and dyno. Gary is working on some injectors for a drag racer who runs the 10.5 in slick class. You run a doorslammer that cannot have slicks bigger than 10.5 inches. The big gun in that class is not some 800 cu.in. monster motor but a Pro Charged 4 cylinder that runs 80 lbs boost and weighs 1600 lbs. 4.02 in the 1/8 mile so build it light and go quick.:D Roy

Got the seat height at a more realistic level and have a "real seat" to set in place soon. Adjusted the shift lever a bit to gain clearance for the steering wheel location and came up with a rather cool pre-made floor panel for the car. Even have a few surprises when I get the time to do a bit more tweaking on things.

If the damn rain stops I should be able to make some more progress and possibly even get some pictures taken. Meanwhile I'm making up some parts lists and doing some garage engineering.:D

Had a good week, even if I was a bit cool in the hangar. Made some progress and some parts and even took some pictures today to add here.

In keeping with the light weight aspect, I made a strong but light gas pedal.

Got the floor pans fitted into the rails.

And have a "teaser" of the current assembly state until I can roll it outside next week and get some good pictures in the sunlight. The details don't show too well, but the drag link is fabricated from a piece of streamline aircraft strut tubing, light and strong.
