As far as American cars go, he has a very early Jeep, the '48 Ford Woodie,
    a early '50's Chevy p/u, and a '57 El Dorado Biarritz Conv.
He doesn't get the 'hot rod thing', but he's pretty cool anyway.
He treats the guys in the shop very well....gifts at Christmas, and after
car shows, that type of thing. And believe me, there's a lot of rich guys
with a LOT less money, who aren't nearly as thoughtful.
    Great guy in my book.

Alfin32, Have the Lauren and Williamson Type 57SC's ever sat side by side? I remember when the Williamson SC set the World Record for highest price set at auction at around $65,000 in the early 1970's, and got to work on it up till 1984. This was long before the current restoration was done.

If I had the financial means of RL, I'd sure have a Blower Bentley (as well as a Miller 91 and...).

Ferrari, Bugatti, Mercedes, 550 Spyder...yeah, he doesn't know SHIT about hot rodding.

Wow. That's the stuff that makes me envy the rich.

  8. I posted a thread a while back when it was on. I loved the part when he was driving his new Macleran(spelling?). What a rush that would be!! He has an amazing collection, and like the narrator says,he only wants the best. I don't remember who the HAMBer was,but one of our own worked on many of his cars. I thought that was really cool!!!
I have a friend who has a Airstream trailer. He told me about Ralph Lauren bought up a bunch of Bambi trailers and was refurbishing them with three different styles. The pictures were awesome...

and Bugatti was the Marque that year....maybe 2000???

When Russels shop restored the black Mercedes boattail, (made for Count Trossi) he said that when they stripped the paint off, there was not a speck of filler on it. An unknown Coachbuilder named Willie White made the body and did an incredible job back then in the 30's.
The Coachbuilders back then were really like later customizers: they would change the shape of bodys because the owner wanted something different from what the other guys had.

Ryan: You have GOT to get to GoodWood Revival. Three days of near priceless European (and some American) race cars duking it out. Deadline for 2009 ticket reservations is Nov. 1st...I can get you in.

Sorry I missed that show; I'll have to buy the DVD or hope they repeat it.

Very true! This is why there are so many different designs of Bugatti cars. I always thought most came out of Bugatti's shop, but that is not the case.

Old cars don't need air fresheners, that's what that "old car smell" is for.:D
