I'm sure some of you talented folks here have been able to bring up unreadable numbers off surface rusted frames.

An internet search revealed about 10 different ways, so thought I'd ask here and see who's had success and with what chemicals?

    Thanks.

I had some success using the finest steel wool available, with some water. A light touch keeps from scratching.
Wipe it clean frequently to check progress. Holding a light at different angles can aid in readability. A little acid, carefully applied, can also bring up the numbers.
I'm sure there's a lot of other successful methods as well.

Funny you mention that, after trying for 30 minutes, I thought the search function was broke...even a search of "Ford" came up with nothing, hence why I posted this...read the "suggestion/Questions forum...and seems this form (the one with everything in it) is not searchable unless you use a different search...but I did come across Bluto's thread and bookmarked it.

    Thanks.
