At a boy Roy. He also set a new personal record for the number of completed passes at any meet. Oh yes, almost forgot, he also set a new record for the distance he smoooooked the tires (way down the track). And the smile went from, well, it was almost as big as the burn out.

I LOVE PowerGlides! Let me tell you it is really great to complete a race and not tearup the driveline. I found out that I'm running one size smaller tires than anyone else. I ran the rpms to 2500 and came out on the first run which netted me smoke until I shifted. Second run I ran it to 1500 and it smoked the tires until I let off and then shifted to high. Third run I let it Idle and ran against Hiney, he red lighted and I ran the first 12.29 at 114. Then the final run against the Red Baron I let it idle and came out slowly getting on the throttle but he was pulling me so I went to the floor and it smoked the tires and I let up and got back on it. By that time he was 3 lengths ahead and while I went 12.29 again with a better 114.46 mph against his 11.87 with 112.01 I couldn't catch him. I don't care because it was so much fun and in another thread about burnouts I find just idle out mash the throttle to the floor and burn 'em as long as you want. The GMC has lots of power just need to control it. Hiney went in the mid 12's with about 105 I believe. FUN FUN FUN:D:D:D Roy

    Mudflap,
What is the Radial tire of choice that works out best, has this been established yet? Is there a better launch with these?

that has not been established. the only one to run them was the red baron and we made him take them off because he had 7inch tire. I bought a set for our new car , the 6 inch is a little hard to find . I will get a durometer and check the hardness. I will have to go over to the shop.

2B you asked a question and I didn't answer it. You asked what rpm I'm going through the lights at and I look at the tach when I'm clearing the last light. It is at 5800 there. I haven't ran it through a calculater to see how much slippage there is from the converter. :confused:Roy

    Roy,

A 1" taller tire will lower your rpm about 200 and get you in a little safer rpm range. With our 3.73 gear and a 28" tire, 120 MPH is 5372 rpm. Yours will be 5904 rpm + converter slippage. Even with the lighter JE piston (400 grams lighter) I'm not completely comfortable with the Hudson rods at the higher rpm's. I want to keep my rpm below 5500 to be safer. Besides, since you can blow the tires away at will, less gear might be a good change.

    Ron
