Hot Rods Quickchange carrier ID?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rocky, Jan 14, 2018.

  1. I'm embarrassed to say I once knew the make of my quick change carrier. I faintly remember reading it has replaceable ramps or wedges in it to increase or decrease it's performance. I promise, this time I'll write it down. Who makes this carrier? Good design or POS?
It's in the axle and under the car so it's gonna stay there. It's a 31 spline and it's a Winters champ rear. TIA. 34QCcarrier.jpg 34QCcarrier1.jpg 34QCcarrier2.jpg

Sure looks familiar, but once again, I am going to have to defer to the sensei, @GearheadsQCE.

    Geez Rocky,

    Don't you sleep?
I believe that is a Variloc. I have one but have not used it, yet. If I recall correctly, it is a clutch unit like the GM Positraction but has the ramp arrangement you mention, to tune the application and release of the clutch pack.

Don't know why, but I think it was/is used more in Road Racing.

Maybe I'll try it in my '37 Chevy.
