who here is runing a quick change rear end on their daily, or a regular driver? im thinking about building one for my coronet. anyone have comments or sugestions for me? its been an idea iv been kicking around for a while.
I've run QC's on several cars without a single problem. I ran two of the cars over 100,000 abusive miles and never had to unbutton the case...! There are a couple of guys on this board that run them on their dailys and haven't had problems as well. Might be a different story if I was running a "spool"...!
im glad to hear that, bc we run then in our midget cars and they work good, but i dont know anyone that runs them in a daily. i didnt know how it would hold up. im wanting to do it so that i can cruise my ass down to La Grange in a nice short gear. and around town keep a slightly taller gear in it. but then i would have to put a speed sensor on the wheele of cource. what do you think? or is this not a good idea?
Mark, have you run a QC on any heavier cars, with some power? Or mainly 30's cars? I'd love to have one in the '55, but I'm not sure anyone makes one that'll hold up to the shock of drag racing.
Mr. Buzzard. Check out this old post. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159447&highlight=halibrand+quick+change on the 24th entry it show a QC in a 55 Chevy that goes 160+mph. one of my fav threads.
The QC I have now was in a 3,200 lb GT-6 road race car that had over 650 h.p. and 600 Ft. lb. of torque... Granted it was not Drag raced but it handled straight and side loads very well. This is more than adequate for my 1,800 pound roadster...! I'd have no quams on running one in a "Street" 55 however there are better choices for "Drag Cars" with over 600 h.p. and slicks. What parts are you running in your 406? And what's your Anticipated HP range...?
Should have plenty of power. I'd rather not get into too many details at this point. I'm planning on running a Currie 9+, but changing gears quicker after the drive to Mokan would sure be nice. I'm going to call Currie in the next week or so, so I thought I ask about QC's one more time before I gave up the dream. racer756, that's a great thread, but I saw no mention of the 160mph Chevy?
Remember, there's several sizes of Quick Changes. There's the one that uses the old Ford passenger car ring and pinion. The Heavy Duty 3/4 ton style with a 10" spiral bevel R & P. AND Speedway Engineering (Not Speedy Bill) has a unit that uses (I think??) an 8.8" hypoid R & P.
