Any suggestions on what to use to re-do the textured grey area on this gauge panel? It Has started to crack quite a bit since this pic. It doesn't have to be exactly the same texture, but something that would look nice.
just as a reference. Someone on here, posted this pic of what a new one out of the box looks like....
Check out teh material they wrap drum kits with. (as in music drums) It is about as thick and pliable as posterboard and comes in all kind of designs and a small assortment of textures. Just a thought, -Abone.
I did this 1932 Studebaker Stewart Warner gauge panel to use in my 32 roadster a few years ago. Used Krylon Wrinkle Finish rattle can.You could use any color over the black if you wanted a different color but the texture is close to a factory look..........
I have been looking at an old aristocrat dash for my 30. It has been replated, but the center looks terrible. They use to make an engine turned stick on. Anyone know where to get some?
Sign Gold makes a spun Gold Leaf vinyl, might have them in Silver as well. They have a site somewhere.
just a thought..have you thought about having an aluminum plate "turned" as the background? that would look sweet..i think
Another option to consider might be Eastwood's special silver paint. They make it to duplicate the "rough" metallic surface of some Chrysler Corp. taillight and grill panels. IIRC, you can vary how rough the suface is, by how you spray it.
I've heard that hammer finish paint varies its texture in response to temperature while drying...try experimenting on cold and warm pieces of metal and see if you can approach original look.
