    Hey fellas,
I have some trim pieces I need to remove some rust from and had a question or two.
Will vinegar or electrolysis harm chrome and or pot metal? One piece is plated sheet metal, the other is plated pot metal. Having great difficulty finding replacements so I have one shot at this!
    Thanks,
    Johnny

Chrome plated steel, I prefer oxalic acid, (wood bleach), 1 tblspn per gallon. 24 hours or less, very controlled. Any acid product on pot metal is sketchy, never know how the base metal will react, watch it closely.

Requires the part to be submerged. You can try vinegar or oxalic acid soaked towels and just keep rewetting on larger parts.

This brand is common, ace hardware, Amazon etc carry it.

    Here's a step by step.

Bought some of that stuff a while back and forgot about it! Time to look for it in the garage I guess.
What about the electrolysis on pot metal? Since it's not acid, what would that do?
