I have a 41 Chevy. I ended up buying rechromed bumpers from Ebay. The listing title was '1941 - 1946 Chevrolet Coupe Sedan Fleetline Fleetmaster Front Rear Bumpers'. The new rear bumper matches and should work, but the new front bumper does not match up to the brackets at all. The seller tells me he got the bumpers off a '46 Chevy Fleeteline, but when I look up photos, they don't appear to match up. Could someone please take a look at the new front bumper that I uploaded and tell me what you think what car it came from? It has 2 horizontal ribs on the backside of the bumper. My original bumper does not have the ribs and it's not even the same shape as the new bumper. Another noticeable difference is there is no center carriage bolt hole in the center.. Thanks! Some specs: My 41 bumper carriage bolt holes for Left & Right bracket: Each is 18-3/8" Center My 41 bumper inside carriage bolt holes between Left and Right bracket: 20-7/8" The new bumper carriage bolt holes: Each side is 16" Center The new bumper bracket inside holes for carriage bolts: 24"
Well, let's see ...'41 bumpers are '41 only, as are '42. '46 - '48 are the same, and there is a front and a rear. The ribbed bumper you show is a '40, no idea what the other is.
Thanks! Could 40 Chevy front brackets work on a 41? Just gotta find out the holes to center and if they mount the same distance apart on the frame.
Are you sure its a 40 bumper? The ribs are on the inside of the bumper only. Both pics are of the same bumper. Thanks
Maybe when lothiandon see's this he can help he is good at stuff like this I have learned a lot from him.
I did find a replated 41 front bumper but didn't buy it yet. I think I'll just sell the one that doesn't fit once I determined if its actually for a 46-48 Chevy fleeteline or 40 Chevy.
Scoot, The '40 is 35 3/4" between the inner 2 holes, the '41 is 34"+ The '40 rear back bars are 40 1/2" apart at the mounting holes to the chassis, I don't have a '41 rear ass'y to measure. And, you're right, that isn't a '40 Chev bumper after looking at several others ...
Here's more pics of the front bumper. As I said, the seller said it came off a 46 Fleeteline. The holes that mount to the bumper bracket are 16" to center, and the bracket holes from the inside bumper bolt to inside bumper bolt bracket hole is 24". Please ignore the bigger bumper in the photo. It's the smaller one with only 4 bumper bolt holes and ribs on the opposite side of bumper. thanks.
Oddly, the 1956 Chev parts cat. shows the same face bar as replacement for '38 - '41 Pass. & light commercial, both front & rear.
Here's what I have. I received front and rear bumpers that were supposed to fit my 41. The rear bumper matches perfect, but the front does not. I talked to the seller and he found that he sent me the wrong front bumper by mistake, and has no idea what this front bumper goes to lol. So now he's sending me photos with measurements of another front bumper that he believes is for the 41. The measurements he gives me matches the rear bumper! I told him to measure the other bumper that I saw in the background photo since it looks more like a 41 front bumper.....ahh smh. If all goes well, we will swap bumpers and he agreed to pay all shipping charges.
It looks like a '40 Ford bumper. They have those strengthening ribs in the back and 4 square holes to bolt to the bumper irons.
Just confirmed that it IS a 40 Ford bumper. Went to my buddy's down the street and it matches the front bumper of his 40 Ford Panel and his 39 Ford (40 front end). Just waiting to see what the seller can work out for me.
