i mean winters sells a posi carrier for my quick change but i need to change to nine inch style housing ends and run a nine inch style flanged axle. i see the axle stub sticking out the end and wondered what they did back in the day. did running slicks lead to a lot of sheared keyways?
Did they make those locked spiders for the early Ford rear ends? I'm pretty sure there was no Posi for them back then.
Dad's 35-48 Carrier ran 1950 Mercury gears and axles, if memory serves. I have the carrier in the attic somewhere. It was just the banjo center section, not the QC, but same basic principle.
A lot of guys just welded the spiders. Not really the best way to do it, but nobody realized that back then and welding them was cheap.
Got to remember, those slicks were hard and spun pretty easily, not soft and sticky like today. Sticky tires would probably shred that rear end.
