I 'm going to look a a 1974 chrysler stationwagon the guy is selling the motor and transmission only ,you must pull it were it sits.He wants the car for storage? asking price is $400 I never pulled a big block . It has set for about 8 years same spot. He said I could use a torch if needed Is this to big of a undertaking for simple tool and a torch is there a cross member that has to be removed? can It come out as a complete unit? Is IT too heavy for a floor style lift? IT is a good hour a way from my house Just asking before I bite off more that I can chew!

WOW.............. Um You need a Mechanic to pull the Motor? I Can be for Hire. PM Me. Ill go.

  4. Buy the guy a shed, assemble it and roll back truck the wagon back to your place, part it out, put the good pieces on ebay, take the rest to the scrapper and come out ahead...

  5. just make sure the car is on a hard surface like concrete , not dirt/grass. you'll have trouble using a hoist if not.

I would do the shed thing also if its on grass. You won't even be able to safely jack it up to get at the trans crossmember bolts.

If its on concrete - then drain the trans, drain the rad and remove, unbolt and remove the trans crossmember, the engine mounts, and all engine/trans conections. If you cut the rad support you will have a lot more room. The A/C condensor can be unbolted, but its a pain the remove and you don't really have to. Take off the A/C compressor if it has it and leave it behind. Remove the oil filter so you don't puncture it, and the engine and trans should come right out on an engine hoist.

I have done this a few times. If you are really determined and its on grass, put down some plywood for the hoist to roll on. You need good thick plywood to do it.

i pulled a flathead with a fordomatic out of a 53 wagon on dirt, South Carolina sandy dirt at that, with a hoist and a couple of long steel channels (I-beam would be best) to support the hoist on the dirt. i ain't saying it SHOULD be done, i'm saying it can be done. have a buddy nearby with a cellphone to call 9-1-1. NEVER use a hoist on dirt without SOMETHING to keep the legs level.

if skippy really wants to use the wagon for storage, offer to remove the column, wheel, gas pedal and brake hanger, all that stuff, to make more room inside, because if you don't use it somebody else can.
