i'd put in the t350 behind the six if i were you. make it easier on the engine and be friendlier to work with.

Go all in on the 6. Mines great and theres no way I'd go to a small block.

  4. I think the 6 with the TH350 would be pretty cool. Different.
There's a 50 Dodge 2 door mild custom I see at the car shows here in the
Twin Cities area with the flat head 6. It's got dual carbs and split cast headers. Looks cool as hell. You can get some power out of the 6 and usually they are pretty tourqy.
My bro did the whole 9 yards to a 258 AMC he had in a Jeep. Ran like a raped ape.
You still have the 305 to switch back to if you want.

I vote for the six, but how about a T-5 or something similar. Don't give away what horsepower you have to run an automatic.

250 should share the motor mount with the small block. 292 however, does not.

I'm happy with the performance of my 305, the 235 was too anemic for me. a little torque goes a long way.

  13. I6 it.......

I'll look at an inliner in a post-war / pre-55 before looking at a SBC in one.

Sell all the leftovers to fund 6 banger speed parts

What is so unique and different about a 6 banger in a 50 chevy??

  15. For what it's worth...my 235 was a much better running and sounding engine than my 305. In fact...that stupid 305 was the worst engine I ever had. But that might be an isolated incidence. Inlines look nice all dressed up...and sound killer with Fentons.

Go with the six and keep the 305/350 for the next project.

    todd...

I did have some issues with clearance. I had to run an electric fan, with the shorter style water pump and the motor was as far back as I could put it, but I have seen this done without this sort of a clearance issue.... I don't know... it works fine for me.

The rear end is a good question. I just used a 75 camaro rear. I have no idea what the ratio is but I'm guessing in the high 2's lower 3's area.. anyone who knows please tell

    LOL. You're funny Tom.

You got me Panic. Your dick is waaay bigger than mine. By the way, there's a little red button at the bottom of every post. When you click it, it allows you to "QUOTE" whomever you wish. That way people will understand what you're talking about. Have a nice day.

I have a 235 and T-5 in my 37 chevy p/u and love it and it will never get a sbc in my lifetime,I was thinking of a V8 but the T-5 changed my mind and glad I kept the 6.

  24. Thanks for all the replys. I appreciate all the inputs. I am going to go for it. I'm still on the fence whether to use the PG or the TH350. Like I said the TH350 was "supposedly" rebuilt but I know the PG works. Thanks again, Todd

  25. Joe,

As we both know your motor is even nicer than the pic. Todd[

Anything would be better than a 305 (except maybe a 262). I doubt Chevy ever made a better boat anchor though. That 250 will run a lot better.

Pretty much ANY Chevy automatic will be better than a Powerglide behind a 235. Low and high just aren't enough for an engine that small. Years ago, I had a '68 Impala with a 327 and a 'glide, and when I canned it in favor of a TH350, it felt like I picked up another 50 horsepower just from the extra gear ratio off the line.
