You split the manifold and run good mufflers and you got a sound like no other. You can still cruse with out using a ton of gas, and still smell the roses and look for BARN Finds. Ha. Ice man
Any pics you could hook me up with would be great. Any issues with the water pump/fan clearance?

I love a powerglide as much as the next guy, but the 3 speed will give you a better low gear while still having the same final. Plus, I've always felt the TH350 shifts a little firmer than the powerglide. Either way, have fun with it! And YES!! There is nothing like the rap of a split manifold six!
Do it!!! nothing sounds like a inline 6.
I drive a 68 chevy short bed big 10 with a 250 inline and a truck 4 speed with 373 gears. bought the whole rig for $800.00 and I would not trade the 250 for a small block. Just looking for a good project for the motor, when the truck gives out. I might be waiting for awhile, the truck wont give up...ghost
6,s are fun i had a few but always sold the car or put a v-8 in it but free is free and its a learning thing

I vote for keeping the turbo 350 too. I've driven a 250 backed by a glide, and it's anemic to say the least. Another car with a turbo 350 and the same engine, was much better.
TUG, when I first built my 36 chevy p-up, I put a 350 belly button in it. I drove it like that for many years. I didnt like the fact that it looked lost in that engine compartment. I picked up a 250 out of a Nova and yanked that small block out, made some mounts, moved the radiator and slid that long lean six right in where she belonged. It has a single carb and a single pipe but it looks soooo much better in there. NOW if I could just get my lazy ass in gear and put the rest of the truck back together, i'd have my baby back. Mike.

I did it, even on a clipped car. I hated the sound of the V8 and to me my 53 is about low and slow.....

wow... I'm suprised so many people like 6's. but I'm a hypocrit as I got a slant six in my dodge I would not take out for a V8. even rebuilt it when the crank broke rather than swap it out. I like V8's in my 49 54 chevys though. if I ever have one where the six needs to come out, it will not be going back in.

I love the power of a V8, but I also love straight 6's . My daily driver is a ventura with a 230 and PG, I have a real affection for the combo, and a 250 is even better. I'd do it. (but keep the V8 just in case)
Sell the pg, and put the th350 behind the 250 six, a buddy of mine put over 350,000 miles on a 250 six in a 74 nova before the engine needed to be rebuilt.
I would do the six.

Go stovebolt. It'll be different, plus much, much cooler.
Go with the 6 and the powerglide! I got a re-built 194 6 and PG, and is easy to work on, great gas mileage, and super reliable. I would never go with a SBC. When the 194 finally wears out I will put in a 250 and hop it up.
well i try to deal in facts ,not opinions.so hereit goes. had a nice running 235 six in my 59 el camino.pulled it out for a 350.now i love my sbc's,got a garage full of them and go fast/look pretty stuff. but to this day i wished i had left that sixer in there,put a 3-1 brl intake/split manifold.would like to raise the hood had not have the same bellybutton motor.by the way,i have a saginaw 4speed behind mine.soon to be t5 . i hope just me
I took the 170/6 out of my '50 1-ton truck and am putting in a blown 392 hemi.
But, I hopped up, dual carbed, etc. the 245/6 in my 53' 3/4 ton and wouldn't want to swap though even that I have a rebuilt Stude V8 I could easily pop in.
So, it probably depends on splitting hairs and what specifically your goals and desires are. Not something others can really answer as pretty much everyone will have a different answer.
A dressed six looks better than an SBC any day.

i have a 292 and 3 speed manual in my 63 chevy wagon, gets killer gas mileage, sounds cool. do it man!!
exactly, leave the v-8!
go with the 250 6cyl. that is a much better motor than older 216 or 235. sell the power glide to a drag racer
