nice score, the 57 pickup is my fave of the lot. I have a 66 that I love but the 57 is the dream truck for me.

  2. I've had several 55-59's but the 57 is my favorite too, the shipping costs were making me second guess the truck but I still feel comfortable with the total cash outlay between the two.
Ironically I was also looking at 66's, since that's my birth year. I almost pulled the trigger on a suburban but dragged my feet and it got sold. I can't wait to get this 57 though

  4. Old photo, the injected motor is the last blown up motor out of the Henry J, the 2x4 motor is the old t-bucket motor that I gave to my buddy for his model A build.
The aluminum AFR head big block is the 489 for the Henry J and the flying eye motor is the old 454 out of the truck which has since had the top end sold off.
So I really have no extra good motors now, just broken junk to look at...lol 100_7441_zps75c7f25f.jpg 20170727_163032.jpg

  5. I bought 20171107_173246.jpg 4 carbs today but still no truck, the shipper was in the area Wed. but the seller was on vacation till Sat., hoping to get it picked up the week after thanksgiving now.

Looks like a solid start. Got a few less holes than my 56. This should be fun

I know this isn't garage journal so this will be my only post on it. The goal is to paint the wall white with 3 smaller black stripes right above the doors so it simulates an old gas station. 30x30 loft up there now

  15. Great news is it was finally picked up last night and is on the way and there's room for it in the garage ! received_2038510633047370.jpeg received_2038510453047388.jpeg received_2038510486380718.jpeg 20171205_182034.jpg

  16. My lucky day, it was dropped off at 8:30 this morning, not so lucky was parts on the truck that weren't bolted on !
The engine had some L brackets to simulate front engine mounts, except the bolts with rubber bumpers that went through the front crossmember had no nuts on them to hold them in place. They bounced out of the holes somewhere on that 2600 mile journey and the engine fell down and wedged itself in there good. It was a 3 hr fight to get it out of there and back into a somewhat normal position and to top it off I checked the casting numbers and it's a damn 307 !
The doors were not bolted to the hinges and the passenger side jumped ship also, it was standing upright in the trailer though and looked ok. I don't think the front clip is bolted down either but it stayed on, I'm really thankful I payed extra for that enclosed trailer..lol
    The truck is pretty darn solid and I'm happy with it for sure, enough rambling here's some photos. 20171209_083105.jpg 20171209_083335.jpg 20171209_083829.jpg 20171209_094721.jpg 20171209_095007.jpg 20171209_111552.jpg 20171209_111644.jpg 20171209_134847.jpg 20171209_094657.jpg

It's a shame it ended up like that. :( In that case I would inspect the cab lower corners closely as that is where they have some rust problems and MAY BE hidden behind some mud.

BUT at least it's finally in your hands. :p

  20. Cab corners and floor right at the vents were disclosed before hand, in fact there's an extra floor section for patches. I've looked at hundreds of trucks and this is one of the most solid ones I seen and also why I chose it, even though I knew it would cost a pretty penny on shipping.

I'll apologize for one of my fellow "Statesman" for not securing your purchase, and he should have. What if that loose engine had damaged the transport trailer, or somehow fallen out of the trailer? One of my projects arrived in similar condition; it was supposed to be a running/driving car, and there was NO way, especially since the "new" battery the seller had just put in the car was't even there! If you're happy how your deal turned out, that's all that matters. Should have kept my Ex-Navy, 58 Chevrolet truck, with a 55 4 barrel 265 in it. Can't keep them all. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  23. That looks like a cool project truck! Glad it finally arrived, it is a shame about the motor, door, etc. Keep us posted on your progress!

While there is no way the engine could fall out of the enclosed trailer, it could have easily fallen out of the chassis damaging the trailer (not that it would matter much to that trailer) The transporter would just have been out of luck on any damage to his trailer. The fact that he showed up at your place with it like that & the look of the trailer (probably a cheapo from South Georgia) tells me he loaded, closed the trailer door & never bothered to look at it again. That is just one of many things you sacrifice with a lower price transport.

When I transport a project I fully inspect, pull, push & jiggle to make darn sure nothing is going to fall off on my trailer. An engine without a trans in a chassis is always a problem, so I spend extra time inspecting that & almost every time I stop, I get in the trailer, check straps & the vehicle itself. I am anal about my equipment & don't even like them dripping fluids, let alone the engine or a door falling on my floor!

    God Bless & Merry Christmas

Congrats Phil! You needed another project.

Those are my favorite trucks. Should be a cool build.

  25. The shipper did contact me at time of pickup that the front clip was not bolted down and hoped it would make the trip. I never asked the seller if the front clip, doors and engine were bolted down, in the photos it looked like it was. If the seller would have simply put a washer and nut on the two engine bolts it would not have moved, if he would have put a ratchet strap between the two doors instead of a loose bungi cord they would have stayed in place. The transmission tail shaft was ratchet strapped to a piece of 3 inch angle iron that was cut to fit inside the C channel truck frame, again not bolted in. The seller obviously didn't take into account what 2600 miles of bouncing and vibrating could do and the shipper (like me) was unaware nothing was bolted down.
It is what it is, done and over with. The seller was made aware so maybe he'll do better next time, the shipper was aware at the end so maybe he'll check better in the future and I'll ask if it's bolted together when I'm inquiring about a future project.

  26. The great archeological dig inside the cab netted nothing great today, a 1967 dime and a 1981 dime under the seat. A couple mid century spindle tapered wooden legs and a can of fix-a-flat in the cab corner, a bumper jack on top of the gas tank, 2 saw blades and a plastic 0 card for gas pump prices and a bird's nest.
Truck parts included, 2 sets of 3 on the tree linkage, one chrome dash knob, deluxe heater control switch for the dash, radio delete plate, various nuts and bolts, spring bottom radio antenna, complete disc brake kit and complete tubular engine/trans mounts kits. I washed the seat enough to sit in and make engine noises, complete with gear changes and squealing rubber sounds. 20171210_173629.jpg 20171210_173704.jpg 20171210_171233.jpg
Tomorrow after two doctor's appointments I'll try and inventory the bed contents. 20171210_173608.jpg 20171210_173725.jpg

  28. Love the pictures! In the future, it would behoove anyone to ask the seller about loose parts just hanging on the body before shipping. Also if a shipper calls & says the front clip is not attached & he "HOPES" it will make the trip... You hired the wrong transporter! A Quality transporter will always carry many different types of straps, bungees & blankets & will make sure everything is secure before he leaves.

    God Bless
    Bill

  30. Lot of stuff in the bed but the missing left upper hinge wasn't in the pile, nor were a couple other door pieces I noticed were missing. The good thing is this truck is supported in the aftermarket industry and the stuff is readily available.
    Now onto the photos we all like to see 20171211_155107.jpg 20171211_155649.jpg 20171211_155213.jpg 20171211_155239.jpg 20171211_155139.jpg 20171211_155328.jpg 20171211_155318.jpg 20171211_155338.jpg 20171211_163531.jpg 20171211_163522.jpg 20171211_155503.jpg
