I am looking for pictures of Project X BESIDES from the Hollywood Knights, the pro touring forum or the GM Form. What I am looking for is any pictures from 1965 when it started, through out the rest of the 60s, the 70s, and after the Hollywood Knights before the Pro Touring. I have been googling around but I can't find any and the Project X threads on this site have nothing but screen shots from HK. Does anyone have any other pictures of Project X?
Here is one thread, there are a few on the board. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=232209&highlight=projectx
id like to get all ther mags that it was featured in from the beginning ,until they turned it into the pro touring hunk of shit
I'm pretty sure I have the issues fromt the original build, but I can't remember what issues they were so I will have to do some digging, and then maybe some scanning!
In my opinion, the death spiral for Project X started when someone thought monochrome was a good idea for the bumpers....looked like some amateuris AMT model from that point on. I know that they ruined that car a lot of other ways, but that was the first pang of major dissappointment to me that the true hotrodders had either been sent packin' or had lost their focus. dj
I have 2 of the 3 first issues dedicated strictly to X from Pop Hotrodding. It actually show's the car right when they bough it from a used car lot for 250.00. And many different configurations through out the first year or two of them playing with it. Unfortunately i don't have a scanner so i can't get pics on.. I'll try and get some with either my camera or cell phone cam as soon as i can. Project X was an instrumental car in my childhood, and the single reason i bought a 57 for my first car, and still own it 24 years later.. Unfortunately, it no longer has the same feel to me as it did......yuck. Tony
PM me with your mailing address. I built the identicle car following their magazine build back in the day. I still have the original reprints that I ordered from Popular Hotrodding. Not quite identicle, mine was a hardtop, silver and Rochester Fuel Injection.
If you have the dates of those mags it will greatly speed up my search I have hundreds of old mags, and I don't even know what shelf to start on...
The magazines are, i assume, from 65. I say assume because thats when they bought the car, and these cover the purchase, and the beginnings of it's long life. They are Project X series 1 and 2, and are all in black and white. Also, they are not "bound" like a normal mag was. They are stapled together and over 1/4 thick.. I took some pics with my phone 'cause i can't find my damn camera, but they are not too awful bad. I'm getting them on my computer now......hang on and i'll post em. Tony
Ok, here's a bunch of pics in random order. The one shot is of both mags next to each other, cover shot i guess you'd say so you guys can see what they actually are. My covers are not in the best of shape after all the years of being knocked around. It had a LOT of changes just in these two books. Injected small block and tunnel rammed big block are only 2 of the many configurations it had, along with wheel swaps through out both. It's crazy how many times it was changed in a short time. Unfortunately it's tough to see some of the cool paint work and details in the pics. So, sorry for the quality. It was either take the pics with my phone, or not at all..... This car was a major icon to me as i said in my other post, right up til Hollywood Knights, and after. I finally saw it in person around 95 when it had the B&M mega blown sb..still retained the radiused wheel wells it had in the early 80's when i saw it..honestly aside from refining a few thing's it wasn't much different..at least you still knew what it was as soon as you saw it.. I took a lot of pics of it but i'll be damned if i can find em.. Tony
NO problem at all. i love digging out these books are flipping through em. Makes me smile. hahaha Here's another, around the time it was in the movie..
Project X evolves with the times man! You think this Retro fad is going to last forever?? Hell NO! For all you know, prostreet will make a comeback.
It's bad enough what GM did to that car, BUT the fact that it is a beloved and historic hot rod icon make it a Global Crime. I still can believe in this day of preservation that ANYONE let alone the people who work for GM would f#$k that car up SOOOOO BAD!
I think the movie was 80 and it's pretty much the same san's wheels so that makes sense. Someplace i had a pic of it, in this trim at the drags hanging the front wheels about a foot off the ground but i can't find it.. JimA, i'm right with ya on that. Tony
