Don't fret about or be ashamed of your old work, it's all a learning process.....and that is how we get good at something and better our own knowledge and skills.

..Like we were instructed as kids, "practice makes perfect"

When I built my T...there were allot of things I look at today and think to myself "Oh..yikes, what the hell was I thinking on that?"

Because of that (and the H.A.M.B.) I constantly strive to improve my skills ..which has allowed me to fix those things......resulting in this...

..and this..

Take it in stride Ryan...it's nothing to be ashamed of..we all gotta start somewhere..

...it's okay to cringe a little though...I did at mine..it's part of the healing process..

I cant wait to read about the motor build since I am planning on yanking the 351 out of my 55 sunliner and replace it with a Y block in the next couple years,I am not planning on yanking the disc brakes off just yet but I dont think it stops any better with them.

I'm excited for this!! I love Y blocks! I have had a lof of performance stuff for em, but it all got liquidated when I bought the 34 roadster late last year...everything but this lil gem

Ryan: Are you connected with Collin Surbert and Dennis Bradford at Imperial Speed Equipment in Washougal, Washington? They cast some very cool stuff that works well and looks right. The tri-power manifold for their blown flathead Caddy is impressive. They're probably on here, for all I know. I sent it out there a few months ago with the idea that Keith and I would do a simple refresh just enough to keep the car relevant without rebuilding the whole damn thing. But then a force took over that seemingly cant be slowed. Its a common theme in hot rodding really. Give a fella the very idea of full potential and its almost impossible to stop short of that.

That lack of compromise is what separates mediocre cars from great ones. I can vividly remember looking forward to seeing British and European (especially Swedish) builds featured in rodding magazines in the early 90s. Back then, an American nostalgia build usually meant wide whites and finned valve covers on a street rod; but the Swedes were recreating history and their cars were so much better for it.

You arent going to regret this murder at all - and Im certain neither will the car.

Oh yes, I can vividly remember having this experience. I lost a good Deuce roadster and a good '40 coupe that way.

Plus all the builds that changed direction halfway through and never got finished.

Come to think of it, model building taught me a bunch of good lessons! Stick to the plan, don't pull apart a finished car to build a different one, and be patient or your paint will look like crap!

I think I feel much the same way about my '49 Ford Coupe as you feel about your '38. I too intend to give it a re-birth someday...but it's so damn reliable as it is, I hate to take it apart.

Anyway, out of curiosity: Why not use '39 or '40-48 Ford pedals so that you could hang the master cylinder on the back where it belongs? Is that also something to do with the pinched frame? Surely there is a pile of those things at the Tardel Ranch.

I also had planned on cutting one of Savage's 6x2 intakes in half and welding it back together to make a 4x2 for a 4-71. (Believe it or not, I was going to build a 4-71 blown Y-block for another Doane Spencer inspired project, but it never got off the ground...yet.) If cutting one up is an option, I may be able to help there if Aaron (Savage) can't.
