I'm having a real trouble starting this truck it gets really good spark and I've hooked up an auxiliary gas tank. I can't seem to find the problem and i'm not prepared to restore it if the engine can't run. If anyone has any suggestions please tell me them

Those old Chevys had a fiber gear that drives the cam. They frequently failed.
With the valve cover off, check that the valves are moving when cranking it.

If you have spark I assume the cam is turning. Is the carb squirting fuel? Have you tried pouring a little gas in the carb? There should be a fuel filter in the carb that might be plugged.

Won't run if no compression. Check that out first. fuel + spark + compression.
