Ok, my kid is building a 34 Ford truck with a 283 and a 3spd. Her boyfriend drives an early 70s Ford 1/2 ton with a 390 2v and c6, and is the "autoshop golden boy". Anyway, he was giving her crap about putting in the Chev (she only went chev because I had a standard and real rods have 3 pedals). Anyway she told him "when it's done not only am I going to hand you your ass, but I'm going to film it and put it on youtube."(brought a tear to my eye, I was so proud).:D

Well, he was hanging around and talking about how fast his truck is and I said "look, its power vs weight, her truck will be in the 2000 pound ballpark so she doesn't need a lot of motor".

He looks at me and starts laughing and says "my truck only weighs 1000 pounds". I ask him "how do you figure THAT?". His response was,,,,

"It is a 1/2 ton truck".

  2. Your daughter needs a new boyfriend, 1000 pounds my arse.

Sounds a bit like the lady who wasn't concerned about the oil crisis cause her car only used 'a half pint of oil every 5000 miles' doesn't it...

    Cheers, Glen.

He's an ok kid, but thinks he knows a LOT more than he actually does.

Last month I look at the left front tire on that truck of his and it is leaning BAD. So, I point it out to him. He gets pissed off because he said he just put in a new kingpin kit on that side. So, we pull it apart and the kingpin is steel on steel, nothing there as a bushing. I said grab the other kingpin and bushings and we will fix it right now and he can buy/put in the other side later.

He hands me the box and there is one kingpin and 4 bushings in it. So, I asked him why are there still 4 bronze bushings in the box? He says "I didn't use the bronze ones because they wouldn't fit over the kingpins, so I used the OTHER ones". I was confused. What other ones. He points to the plastic protective sleeves on the kingpin and says "I used the plastic bushings".

good god, where he works at so we don't get a bill for brake lines on a model A?

... but really, your daughter needs to see this thread and upgrade... or maybe just trade for a cute rottweiler puppy ;)

Well, the standards in this town aren't all that high. The High School's autoshop has a roundyround race car. After putting in the "new" gas tank (that has been sitting for a year and a half),new lines and pump, they take it to the track tonight for "test and tune". One lap later it comes back into the pits. Carb is full of crap. My daughter walks in the house and the first words out of her mouth is "gee, you think a fuel filter might be a good idea on the race car?"

I would think the shop teacher would have caught that one. So, unfortunately, a polished turd is still, just a turd.

He just needs to close the mouth a bit more and open the ears and eyes.

I can't wait for that video. Make sure and get the part where hes crying, standing next to his boat anchor with that deer in the headlights look.

  13. Those who can do , do, the rest teach.

Sounds like the kid just needs a chance to learn, hell when I was 6 or 7 I bet a kid in my class that Volks Wagons had radiators. My dad was kind enough to point out to me that he had a hammer in the shop with more sense than I had. I had to come up with enough soda bottles to buy several bags of M&Ms.

Learned two things that day, when it comes to stupid mistakes you're pretty much on your own and yes that did build cars with motorcycle engines.

I didn't even read past the part of the boyfriend saying it weighs only a thousand pounds because it's a 1/2 ton truck. You really need to send that into Readers Digest and get paid a couple of hundred bucks for that funny.

My wife was in Wendy's once and saw a girl wearing a button that said, "Ask us about our free refills" So she asked the girl, "How much ARE your free refills?" The girl wasn't sure how to answer her and my sons walked away claiming she was a stranger.

Does a body good to laugh now and then................ THANKS!

OK, Just caught the plastic bushing post. Can't stop laughing...... Are you sure he isn't just pulling your leg? Then I guess not if he's willing to put the wheel on the way he did and drive it...... I know we've all made mistakes and did dumb things, but this is hilarious! Got any more?............... Sounds like a new thread for the funniest stuff you can come up with!!!!!! Thanks again for the good laugh!!!

    Great story.

  17. I remember these type of guys. i was always odd man out. Still am . I built a 58 Dodge 318 4 bbl when I was 15 licensed it at 16 and drove it bowing off an aquitances 327 poncho. (Canadian Pontiac other than GtO have Chevy engines). "His clutch was slipping and he wasnt really racing"
Built a 64 dodge wagon , had a heads up with a 350 Nova and gave him more than he bargined for . He sold the car that week and hasnt been out since. He was 18 then . he is now 52
Built a 63 dodge post. Put in a 68 Street Hemi. Other than one poor foolish teenager couldnt find any of the boys for a whole year. Finally turnd it into a race only car.
Had a rich guy locally with a GTO judge that had been turned into a full bore race car. roller cammed 454 (Beaty and Woods motor) , 9 inch ferd diff, four link etc, etc. Car despite its weight ran good . 11.70s . I built the Dodge Charger from the OR book and went goat hunting. He retired from racing and has not been to the track with his car since. Our solid lifter cammed car weighing exactly the same weight. (both cars weigh 3950 without driver) ran 11.49. The same will happen to your kid. When the car is done the Ford truck will be nowhere to be found. You can bank on it. Wishin her all the best on the build.

  18. I know the type...

When I was 16 or so I went to see the James Bond movie Goldfinger. There is a scene in it where they take a Lincoln to a crusher, crush it into a cube and put it in the back of a 61 Falcon Ranchero. I remember turning to my buddies and saying something like, "That's stupid, that Ranchero would be flat on the ground..."

My buddy, the Junior class President, said "Naw, it's not that heavy...it's only about 2 foot square....."

Try asking most people "what weighs more,,,5 pounds of steel or 5 pounds of feathers?" Most will actually ARGUE the 5 pounds of feathers weigh less :D

Lol, shes both a guy's and a dad's nighmare. Shes blonde (long blonde), into cars, built like a brick shithouse, welds, and can run most shop tools, even an English wheel somewhat, just started her tattoo sleeve, and an IQ that will scare the crap out of you. Hell, I don't know if she still can, but when she was 5 she could pee out a campfire, lol. Needless to say, my dogs are pittbulls and I clean my guns a LOT. :D

Funny kid. You should keep him around for laughs. Just don't let him work on your daughter's car.
