power steering on my 1949 pontiac

    has anybody up graded and put a newer power steering on a old pontiac i heard you can use a 605 box if so is there much in doing it do you need to by a bracket for it any help would be nice thanks
     
  2. Been done on 55-57, which use more or less the same frame back to '49. It bolted up to the stock pitman arm and required you drill and sleeve two new holes in the frame, retaining one of the stock ones. Your milage may vary.

    thanks i found a old theard that some one done it just have to find a box to see what hole i need to use

    i read on here use a newer gm box but you cant they are mounted in front of the crossmember not behind like i need

    i think a 1973 and older nova is a rear mounted one

    the pontiac dont have the center link do they

    only thing in mine is a tire rod end and a bare between the two

    Mid to late 50s p/s box might bolt it.
